Basic (probably n00b) Question about Motherboard Fan Ports

Do the motherboard fan ports have a general "limit" to the amount of fans connected?

Basically, can I daisy-chain the molex connectors on fans, then plug into the motherboard's fan port?

Practical example is daisy chaining two D12SH-12s on a Venomous X then plugging into the CPU Fan port on the mobo. This an issue?

Thanks preemptively!

PS - Specific conditions if they do become of concern:
Asus Sabertooth X58
Venomous X
2x D12SH-12s
BFG LS1200

Each board will have a maximum wattage that the fan connectors can handle.
I have two Noctua fans on my CPU cooler...plugged in with a "Y" cable to the cpu fan connector on the board.
Read your motherboard documentation. It SHOULD tell you.

I calculated this once on an Abit board (by spec in manual and adding up fan amps), and it turned out it could support somthing like 5 or 6 of the 120mm fans I was running, but each board is different.

My only question about one of these would be how it would impact monitoring of the fans' RPM -- you get that through the BIOS through the motherboard headers normally.

By using high quality brushed aluminum, this product has precious appearance.

I think that someone needs to go outside and get some fresh air. :whiste:

I got the Rosewill Challenger, and I believe 2 of the 3 fans just have the big Molex power connectors. Does this mean I should plug those into the PSU directly, and I guess they just run at full power whenever the computer is on?

Or am I supposed to get a Molex adaptor and plug them into the mobo headers?

I guess as long as the fans are pretty quiet I don't care if they are adjusting their speed or just running......and I know 1 of the 3 fans can go into the mobo as it is now.

Anyone else know what is best option?

THe small non molex Fan connectors (like the ones that go on your MB headers) have three wires a black, red and yellow. The yellow, (if your fan has it) is the RPM sensor wire. Even if you hook the red and black (power and ground) up to a different power source (like a fan controler) you can still run the yellow wire to the MB to sense the RPM. You can get or make wires that have the female power connector going to a molex conector and only the yellow wire going to a new three prong female connector that you can plug into the MB. Some fans are set up like this stock, I think Arctic Cooling has some.
