Basic PCIe question

This may be a stupid question. I am interested in getting a new board and obviously want to consider the new PCIe boards. However, I do not want to lose my existing PCI cards (i.e. TV tuner, etc.). I know that the graphics cards PCIe vs. AGP are different and not interchangable. However, do these new boards that have PCIe 1X slots accept old PCI cards? So, I guess that I am asking if there is any backwards compatibility?

PCIe is a completely separate bus (PCIe 1x connectors are much too small to accomodate a PCI card), but all boards that I've seen still retain a slot or three for legacy PCI.

Nope, no backwards compatibility. Most boards will still have a few regular PCI slots, so just be careful when you are shopping and you will be okay.
