Basic newbie Burner Questions.

1. What does the RW mean in CD-RW

2 What does the middle speed represent? Like16x10x40 I know what the 16 and 40 but
what about the 10.

3. Can I copy another CD through a lan or do I need a burner and a Cdrom in the same computer?

4 Can I rewrite over a burned cd.

Now anybody ever Copy a cd through a lan before?

In regards to number 3... you could, theoretically, copy through a LAN. But your connection would have to be at the speeed you were burning. ie, if you are burning 1.2mb/sec, your LAN would have to be sending at AT LEAST 1.2 per second also.

Yes, you can copy a CD or potions thereof. I would be wary though unless your burner has something like burnproof technology that will keep you from making a coaster due to a buffer underrun.

So if you had a 16x10x40 you wouldn't be able to burn at the top speed.

I have just a normal ethernet lan and I have mesured speed at about 800 Kbs. So if I set to copy at say 4x that would do it maybe?

Since all the other questions have been answered, I will just address the copying over a LAN part. GrandHooHa is right about the speed of copy from CD to CD over a LAN. I would say it might be easier to select the "create temporary hard disk image" option. This should alleviate any problems you might encounter with transfer rates. Hope that helps.

Probably, however when it comes to me and my burning, I try to play it safe as possible, even if Cd-R's are cheap. I'm a teenager, CHEAP is not in my financial dictionary!

It is faster to just copy or move the file to the computer you are burning from and then burn right there, burning accross a LAN can be ify.
