Basic Network Setup

What I've been thinking of doing, since the 2 computers in our house are in rooms right next to each other, is simply running a cat5 cable from a router in one room to the ethernet port of the second pc. Per the recommendation of many sources I've been looking at this router, also because someone said it has a built in print server. I'm assuming you need a wireless ready printer for the print server, but does this router in fact have that capability?

What I'm looking for is an assesment of this setup; is there anything else that would be a better option as far as cost or performance? We have 758kbps dsl btw

Are you looking for wired or wireless connections for your equipment? You could get a wired or wireless printer if you dont have one atm. Wired computers and printer would give you the best speed and reliability.

It should (you do need to install the drivers of the printer through Add a Network printer on the computer that you expect to print.

You should know that 3rd party printer servers are Not compatible with all the Printers that are out there.

So there is a probability factor too.

Is that a matter of chance, or does asus post a list of compatible printers on their site or something?
