Hi
I'm trying to set up a home media streaming wireless network. (A new Endeavor for me)
I have afew basic questions that I'm guessing on but would like some advice from some one with more experience.
I got the network up and running , but in the process I lost all my wireless cable cable internet access. I had to unplug the streaming receiver & reboot the router to regain access.
1. When I'm asked to enter the IP address, Is it the address of the wireless router oe of the server computer? Or are they both e same?
2. Can the problem be a software firewall related issue.
Any advice or help greatly appreciated.

this is a silly question but have you read the instructions that came with the wireless receiver?

since you're streaming media from your pc id imagine the receiver would require you to enter the ip address of the computer where the media is stored. the device would only need the router's ip if it needed to access the internet (i cant think of a reason why it would)

does the receiver come with software to install on your pc or does it simply ask for the shared directory where the media files are stored? if it comes with software you may need to open your firewall to allow the software to communicate with the receiver.

when i modded my xbox to be a media center all it did was access my pc via basic windows file sharing, so that didnt require any changes in my firewall settings.

i hope some of this info helped

It is hard to answer your question since this (Quote) ?I had to unplug the streaming receiver & reboot the router to regain access? is not a common device like a Router or a Switch and thus most of us would not know technically how to deal with it.

The IP address to what and where?
