Basic LCD Questions

Hi, my monitor is starting the slow process of crapping out and I've been considering going to an LCD monitor but I have a few questions I'm still not certain about after reading various articles/faqs. I use my computer about equally divided between writing, watching movies, and playing games.

1. Is it a significant difference on eye strain between an LCD and a reg CRT? I used to be able to sit at a computer for 12+ hours when I was younger but lately more then a couple of hours gives me a serious headache. I was hoping an LCD might help this.

2. I'm still not certain about the native resolution thing, so it downsamples and looks funny if you run at a resolution less then that res? Since huge monitors hurt my nech I'm pretty certain I'm gonna get a 17" monitor and with my CRT now I prefer to run 1024X768. It seems like most LCDs have a native res higher then that, is that gonna be a big problem? Running windows at a higher res wouldn't be a big deal, but I dunno if I have the horsepower (9700 pro) to be running all my games at a higher res with the video options I prefer.

i have a 17" sharp lcd and i really wish i had a crt. the image quality is horrible on most lcd's......and as for headaches....lcd us the wrong way to go....

i think LCDs are great, usually headaches are caused by a low refresh rate and since LCDs dont flicker it will probably help. i was a hardcore crt fan w/ my 19" samsung truflat monitor but i have recently purchased a philips 17" 16ms which was fabuous, viewsonic 19" vx900 which was ok but ghosted in games, and my new dell 2005fpw which is unbelievable. i will say that a good CRT has better contrast but i'd take my 2005fpw over a CRT anyday, especially if your short on room im using a small desk so i like having extra room on my desk for papers and stuff
