Built a basic X2 4600+ pc for htpc purposes. Use it mainly to watch movies on my 32" lg lcd in the living room (1366 x 768).

I have digital cable through my local cable provider with HD-DVR receiver.

what benefit would I have to adding a tuner card?

suggestions for a decent tuner card under $100...and how would I hook it up? Cable splitter?

I currently have 2-way splitter..one running to HD-DVR, one to cable modem.

I don't think it would be worth your time to get a tuner card since you have HD PVR, UNLESS you wanted even more space, and the ability to "share" your recordings.

Yes you would use a 1->3 coaxial splitter. Make sure it is a digital higher bandwith splitter otherwise it can lose the internet/digital signal. (ie don't use the old school splitters used for cable tv and those thin vcr/tv coax wires)

You could use the the TV card to stream movies from the HD-DVR box to your computer so you can save them to your hard drive. Uh did I just repeat what was just said... sheesh. :)
