Basic CPU Summary

Can you provide a summary of the pros and cons of the various CPUs in the market such as ULV,Celeron, Atom, etc.?

I'm just looking for basic information so that I can make an informed decision on the next notebook purchase that I need to make as my 6 year old laptop is in its last days.

Any kind of link to a beginners guide is also appreciated.

Wikipedia is a good place to start as it has all the specs, including upcoming parts.

Current CPUs
Future CPUs
Atom CPUs

Basically, the different CPUs are aimed at different markets. ULV is for ultraportables and really can't do much beyond day to day apps, light gaming and work. Celerons are a bit better and aimed at the budget segment. Atom is supposed to be the lowest power (energy & performance) CPU for ubiquitous use and really only good for everyday apps.
