Looking to build my employee a solid box that can run hyper-v for work-related labs and the occasional game or two. From the reading I've done it sounds like a G0 q6600 should be fairly straightforward to pull off a mild o/c to 3ghz with the stock cooling system.

This is what I'm looking at:
Q6600
GA-EP45-UD3R
OCZ Reaper DDR2 1066
LG dvdRW
Silverstone ST50F 500W PS
Antec Three Hundred case

$655 shipped

I already have a crapload of matched SATA drives so I'll throw a couple of those into a RAID1 array.

I'll let him worry about what video card he wants to buy and throw in there.

Any comments or suggestions would be most appreciated!

Thanks,
Wes

You're reading some old articles & threads.
Forget the 65nm 6600... go for a 45nm CPU. :thumbsup::laugh:

Yeah, interest in 65mm Q6600 devices has waned. Even though Intel DROPPED their price a few weeks ago, the price ROSE at Newegg. That's likely because those who want a Quad-core CPU on an older motherboard only have one choice --- the Q6600. I don't expect the prices of Q6600s go do down anytime in the near future, since the demand will still be there for older motherboards.

Unless you have a motherboard that can't handle a 45mm chip (like my Dell 440SC server), then look at the 45mm versions.

Thanks guys... Had some issues with my forum login but i'm back (obviously). I went ahead and just ordered him a UD3R and e8400 for now. It's a solid chip, he doesn't really need QC for anything just yet, and maybe he can squeeze 3.6ghz out of the thing and hold out for i5.

Thanks again!
