I did a small tune up on my bike today. I adjusted my brake pads and the brake cables because they had gotten slack in the past year. But I'm trying to fine tune my derailleur. Everything was fine except for the fact that it wouldn't shift in seventh gear (the smallest gear), no grinding or anything, but it just wouldn't shift. I fixed that issue by playing with one of two nuts... but it caused another problem.
When I am in the left-most gear on the front derailleur, every gear in the back are fine... but when I'm on the middle or the right-most gear in the front, my 4th and 5th gear at the back need a little help when I'm downshifting. When I'm upshifting, everything is fine.
How am I supposed to fix this? I guess I should play with the two nuts on the derailleur, but my 1st and 7th gear already engage properly... maybe I could still play a bit more with those nuts without breaking my 1st and 7th gear... I'd try but it's raining outside right now.
