basic 754 setup

i've heard good things about that motherboard. It overclocks and performs well. I was thinking about getting this board from newegg but its actually vost more than my epox based on the 250GB 😕. They also listed the specs wrong, the sempron 2800+(which i have) has 256k of cache and not 128k like the site says. Thats a pretty good deal as long as you get the rebate back from TD.
 
I"ve got a 6800nu unlocked that I would like to use, it's AGP. Trying not to spend any more than I have to.

You might also consider the Soltek nForce3 250Gb mobo for $74 on NewEgg. The eVGA board based upon the same chipset is also available for the same price with the instant $10 rebate at NewEgg as well. I can say the Soltek is totally rock stable (having used six of them), and has 91 five-star reviews to back it. Not to mention every review site that has ever looked at it has loved it. Not an overclocker, but it is the fastest and most stable nForce3 250Gb board out there at stock speed. I think the eVGA board is a good contender as well with it's polymer capacitors. There are no reviews for it, however. My *guess* is that it is also highly stable.

Edited to say--you get what you pay for. The Chaintech, although not a bad board, is not up to the same level of quality as the Soltek or the eVGA.
 
Thanks for the replys....might just go ahead and spend a little more and go with a socket 939 board....I know AGP isn't the newest tech but I'm sticking with it for a while longer. Any suggestions for a socket 939 with AGP? Might get something a little better than the sempron 2800 too.

Well, I would suggest one of the EPoX 939/AGP boards, as they are inexpensive and appear to be trouble free--especially the 9NDA3J see NewEgg here: http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813123230

It is $94.

Another option is the Biostar NF4ST-A9, which carries both a AGP and a PCI-E x16 slot! Here at Newegg: http://www2.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16813138248

Biostars are not overclocker friendly by any means, but they are very stable at stock and a lot of OEM's use them. It is $86.

Another option would be a ALI m1689 chipset based mobo, such as the Chaintech S1689 for $70. ASUS will release a m1689 board as well--but I am not sure on AGP support.
