So, 3d is the new thing coming, great for gaming.

That seems to suggest trying to get a 120Hz monitor, whether for the Nvidia 3d (don't like how it makes the image 50% less visible) or other 3d things that might come out.

That would seem to preclude nice 60Hz monitors now like the LG 30" ISP ($1100 though).

I'm guessing there's more to it as I hear about 3d support in coming tv's.

What makes sense now for looking at a monitor for gaming, given the 3d comng?

Currently I don't know of any monitors that support the new 3D technology. Of course since Sony is just releasing that for Televisions maybe you'd be better off going with a Sony LCD 3D T.V. But for now I don't know of any graphics cards or games that use that technology.

It may be another year or two before that tech comes down the pipe and makes it's way into the computer realm.

I wonder if these 3D T.V's will do well or if they're just a fad. Until I can watch 3D without glasses I don't really care.... oh wait! That tech has been around for 20 years already but no one's using it except in high end Kiosk displays. Ok and granted it still needs some improvements.

edit....it IS coming down the pipe already!
Ok I see, Nvidia supplies the glasses, recommends a 120HZ LCD, and their card accomplishes the task of a 3D t.v. with your 120HZ monitor.
I'd definitely still wait until this was more widely supported in gaming before I would bother spending the money on it. Wait and see. Another means might come out that involves using a 60HZ 3D T.V. instead of using a hefty graphics card to make a 120HZ LCD behave like a 3D T.V.
Possibility anyway.

It's not a fad - most TV's will end up with 3D support which never happened in the past, TV is also being broadcast in 3D (e.g. football world cup) which never happened in the past.

This is the way TV makers see they can get you to buy a new TV now you already own an HD set, and the way content providers get you to spend more money now they can offer you 3d channels.

Incidentally for gaming a true 120hz monitor is a big plus without the 3d.
