if you couldn't possibly have seen any alleged foul because you were blocked from seeing it, why do you blow your whistle?

swallow your whistle if you can't see anything.

which game are you watching?

I tend to give refs the benefit of the doubt. I've reffed, coached and been involved with some large leagues. Refs are human, they make mistakes. But, I will agree that bball refs have a tendency to blow a proactive whistle rather than a reactive whistle.

michigan state-gonzaga. ref was blocked by the gonzaga player when the player made a fairly clean steal, but assumed the gonzaga player fouled the MSU player.

basketball is obviously very hard to officiate but they do call far too many fouls based on 'i think something happened' vs. 'i saw something happen.' i'd rather there be more refs on the floor but the refs only calling things they actually see happen. rather than a guy 50 feet away and blocked by the player calling something because he assumes something happened.

Have you ever reffed a game?

You try running up and down the court for a game and get back to me on how "terrible" you were.

It's tough. I remember when I played basketball on my work team. I got called for fouls that I did not even do. One time, a guy charged me while one on one. He tried to make a basket, I planted my feet, he kept going and began the layup. I put my hand and stripped the ball cleanly. I got called for a foul. Another time, I tried to prevent a score and slapped hus wrist by accident. No whistle was blown.

being winded and out of shape is not an excuse for making bad calls. if you can't do that maybe you should pick another job like holding the first down marker.
