Baseball Unfairness NL Central VS AL West

NL Central has 6 teams, AL West has 4 teams.

All else being equal and excluding the wild card, a team in the AL West has a 1 in 4 chance of winning the division and making the playoffs, a team in the NL Central has a 1 in 6 chance.

Lame!
 
Even more unfair is that the NL has 16 teams and the AL has 14, meaning that it's easier for an AL team to win a wild card spot theoretically.

In actuality though, with the Red Sox and Yankees, it's tough to get one of those spots.
 
Yeah, this bugs me far more than the stupid "omg nobody besides the Red Sox or Yankees will ever win the AL East" crap.
 
the AL basically hasn't added a team since 1977 (brewers left and rays joined in 1998)
the NL has added a bunch of teams in the last 2 decades (brewers, rockies, marlins, diamondbacks)

Plus the AL West seems pretty weak. Mariners haven't done shiat in years now. So it's usually first one to 85+ wins takes it.
 
In 2005 the Indians had 93 wins and didn't get in the playoffs. They had at least 3 more wins than EVERY SINGLE NL team except the Cardinals.

Easy to fix, go back to AL and NL East and West, do away with ridiculous wild card. And while we are fixing things get rid of designated hitter as well.
 
i think the best solution is to split the yankees into two teams
each one is only half a team, not full teams, that way yankees will no longer dominate and the AL will be closer with 15 teams

Yeah, getting rid of all the exciting aspects of the game would greatly improve things
 
whoah whoah whoah.... the Brewers ain't moving out of the NL central, we like it here.

Nor would the MLB allow that... Brewers and Cubs is WAY too big a rivalry, and the St. Louis/Brewer one is growing too.

I'm sure having that one Cubs "home" game (last year?) at Miller Park made the Brewers faithful happy. ouch There is a Cards/Brewers rivalry? I remember reading about the Cubs not liking Ryan Braun and some of the antics of some Brewers players.

If the number of teams in the playoffs is what adds excitement for you then perhaps the NBA or NHL are the place for you. Sorry but I think diluting the winner takes all aspects of the game made it much less exciting.

A 4 team playoffs would be a joke unless you also plan on cutting 10+ teams.

What they need to do is let the top team in each league pick who they want in the first round, even if they're the WC winner in the same division. And also have 2 WC winners in each league, have them play a 1 game playoff at the end of the season, and then immediately play the next round, giving an advantage to division winners. That would add another team for fans to root for and 2 awesome do-or-die playoff games each year.
