Baseball thread!! How's your team look so far?

I have to say so far, so good for the Braves. Pitching looks pretty solid...Millwood actually pitched a pretty solid few innings vs houston (16 pitches, 12 for strikes). Smoltz looks to be solid despite this weird infection in his thumb...Spooneybarger is apparently borderline unhittable, I'm dying for some TV coverage so I can see if he's really as good as all the press about him has been.

I'm curious to see what they're going to do with Surhoff (who is apparently no super-happy about being a non-starter)...trading him could free up some loot for another bat perhaps?

I'm also curious to see how Sheffield behaves after the honeymoon is over. So far all the local press has been "oh I'm so happy to be here and playing for such a super bunch of fellows, I love atlanta, etc". I'm optimistic things will go well tho....Braves management are generally pretty good about keeping the roster happy (unless you're Brian Jordan...that was ugly).

Anywho...I'm totally psyched the season is nearly underway. Gots my Braves/Mets tickets for April 6 all ordered up and ready to go.😀

GO BRAVES!

I haven't paid attention to baseball yet until the season starts.

I know it's gonna be a dog fight between Atlanta and NYM.

Can't wait for it

Hopefully the management can keep Sheffield happy.

EDIT: They still need an established power hitting 1st baseman or hopefully Wes Helms will pan out Where for art thou Sid Bream?

Hopefully the Gold Club being closed down won't hinder keeping him happy...based on the testimony from that trial, pro athletes apparently need a steady diet of fellatio from strippers to maintain their focus throughout the season.😉

As a Dodger fan I can tell you that Sheffield said the same things about the Dodgers when he was traded here several years ago. It'll only a matter of time till "I don't care where I hit" turns to "I need to hit third to get protection". He'll probably put up great numbers this year, but they won't be in September or October.

The Dodgers look much better now that he is gone.

A's fan. They look good to me.

Regarding Sheffield: It doesn't matter how happy he is. He's gotten at least 75% negative press for at least 6 years now. It's been more than TEN years since Sheffield has had a bad season. Apparently he still plays pretty darn well when he's upset...

How can any team look better with Brian Jordan instead of Sheff?

Hehe, that's pretty funny.

BTW, I'm an Expos fan, feel for me. 🙂

Giants Fan.

I think we're looking okay. I'm not really sure about how Reggie Sanders and David Bell will play, but assuming Snow and Kent can get back on track, and with our solid pitching (please tell me Livan is in shape!), I think we'll be in the hunt.

Cardinals all the way!

I'm an Astros fan, but they just can't win with bagwell 🙂

Just gotta like STL. Good players, great baseball city, fun to watch LaRussa, etc etc etc.

Down with the Yankees and their $170 payroll.

The biggest problem for the Dodgers last year was injury. That looks to be rectified this year with Beltre, Karros, Ashby, and Brown looking strong so far. Also Izturis (SS) and Christenson (CF) will be big upgrades from Cora and Goodwin/Grissom last year. Not to mention a deeper and more vaired pitching staff.

Well The Mets are powered offensively, but their pitching is suspect (much like the Indian's in the past few seasons.) I live in Atlanta, but I'm from Cleveland. I was a die-hard Indian's fan 10 years ago, but now the Braves are starting to grow on me. Most Likely the Braves will cruise through the season and win the division over the Mets. Just hope when playoff time comes around, they don't choke like they usually do. 😀

<< Orioles ...

Siiiiiiiiiiiiiiiigggggggggghhhhh 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁

I don't want to hear it.. I am a Tigers fan.. 😀

My high school varsity team is looking pretty good so far. Defense in preseason has been pretty solid, our top pitching should be good, and we have some real good hitters. My main concern is #8-9 hitters, and #4-5 pitchers should we play 3 or 4 days in a row. We should win our division, and hopefully make a pretty solid showing at sectionals. I pitch and play 2nd base btw.

edit
Upon further exploration, it appears you were referring to major league teams, although you didn't specify. Go Yanks.

Red Sox, Red Sox, Red Sox!!!!!
They are on on a roll!!! They went from being winless--to just one game under .500 in ONE day.
(they are 2-3 now 😉 )
Who cares if they win every game Pedro doesn't pitch 13-12. No-Mah, Manny, and Trick Nixon and Varitek are smacking the crap outtas da ball.

Giants fan here and I can only hope the season is as much fun as last year.

Go Giants!!!!!

If Barry and the Giants could win the World Series it would make an already good year the GREATEST of all time!

That is if we have baseball the players still do not have a new aggreement.

Look at my sig. for the cure...............

I can't see the Braves getting rid of Surhoff. It's not that they wouldn't want to, but more like they couldn't dump him on a team if they tried. Maybe if they have a hot prospect and want to trade the prospect to a team for an established first baseman, then they might be able to put BJ in the deal without the other team declining the offer.

sorry mets fans but braves are gonna run away with that division.

The braves as always will do will in their division. they will probably win their division, but untill they get some POWER pitching the braves will lose somewhere in the playoffs. Playoff baseball is different from the regular season. regular season success means SQUAT during the playoffs.

wish the braves had traded maddux like 2 seasons ago. 🙁 it's probably too late to get anything good for him now.

Finally, the Reason Smoltz has been the Braves most successful pitcher during the playoffs is because he is a POWER pitcher.

if millwood would get his control back he could be a decent power pitcher. they need 1 more good power pitcher, then i say they could win the World Series.

Giants fan also. I heard Kent broke his wrist after falling down washing his car. ARRRGH. The Giants have one of the best managers and some quality players. The addition of Bell and Sanders and Shinjo will hopefully strengthen their hitting (especially in the leadoff position). Pitching is always a crapshoot. I'm glad they got rid of Estes.

The mets look pretty darn good also.
