General Motors Corp.'s Chevy hopes its new TV ad campaign -- which revives one of its popular ads from the 1970s -- will convince patriotic consumers "D" is the right answer. The spots are to run during the All-Star Game today at Pittsburgh's PNC Park.
As part of its 3-year, multimillion-dollar sponsorship of Major League Baseball, Chevy this month rolled out the ad titled "Love Affair," which like the older spot, features a chorus singing "We love baseball, hot dogs, apple pie and Chevrolet." The new ad also includes updated lyrics saluting modern things such as "stolen bases, goat cheese pizza, bottled water and Chevrolet."
"We tried to make a connection with the game" and Chevrolet, said Chevy's national promotion manager Philip Caruso. "They're both popular, ingrained in American culture, in tune with American society and successful with the masses, regardless of race or income."
With its new ads, Chevy joins a handful of advertisers bringing back old jingles, slogans and people in campaigns to drum up a sense of nostalgia that they hope will drive sales.
