I have a whole bunch of baseball cards that I collected when I was a kid. Probably around the late 70's and early 80's. Are there any particular players cards I should be looking for? Is there any online sites I can look at with this kind of info? I also have Beatle's ( the band ) trading cards that were given to me by my aunt that she collected when she was a kid. Any comments! Thanks...

For a couple of dollars pick up the latest Beckett magazine, that should have the latest values of all of your cards.

Look for '83 Doneruss cards. Loaded with great rookies. Mattingly, Carter, Puckett I think. Since subsets didn't exist at that time, you pretty much are looking for rookies. If you got that Mattingly lemme know.

Go to your local Bookseller and pick up a copy of Beckett Monthly. Its a priceguide for Baseball cards that most dealers go by. At least they did when i was still into BB Cards which has been a while.

Yep, as far as I know Beckett is still the authority when it comes to baseball card prices.

I believe that the baseball craze has gone down signifcantly in the past few years, it's really starting to wane so you better get rid of those darn things before they are only useful as fire-feeding paper!

FYI..Doneruss cards are probably the lowest value of all brands of cards. Topps were the best back then. Dont know about now days. I have some old 60's, 70,s and 80's. I will pass them on to my son to enjoy. If anyone has any Johnny Benchs (Reds) rookie card let me know I might be interrest in it or trade.

<< ok, I've got a complete 1992 set of cards. Worth anything? >>

No. It's sad, but no. I collected mostly in this "depression era" of cards, starting in 1988 until 1993 (with a few exceptions ie, Griffey rookies and 92 Bowman), and they aren't worth jack. 94 was the start of what the industry has become today with all the insert sets and autograph inserts.

All but in that one year, where they were loaded. I think the whole set was about $300-400 last I checked (a few years ago).

Hey man back off I called it first!! Heh, I prolly wouldn't be able to afford it. Ah well. I only have about 20 of his cards, but I do have his autograph on a ball with about 1/2 of the 1991 Yanks team from a weekend seires in Cleveland. Mel Hall, Hensley Muelens, Randy Velarde, Stump Merrill, Alfonzo Espinoza ect. Man that was awhile back. I even have Manny Ramirez on their somehow. I thnk he was a top prospect of the Indians at the time I didn't know any better than to go ahead and get his too. I was so mad I had an Indian on their at the time heh.

I'm jealous! Autographed mattingly ... tempting ;) That's awesome, keep it forever. Mattingly was almost the whole team back them, anyone else on the ball??

If you have "money" rookie cards, I highly suggest using the Beckett's grading system. I'm in the process of turning Brodeur rookie cards into very decent cash because I had them graded.

Ebay is the quickest way to find out what cards are selling for right now.

I stopped collecting in 94. Major League Baseball lost my trust and faith that year. As a kid (I turned 16 in 94) I would always keep up with the box scores and stuff in the paper each day. But when they cancelled the World Series in 94 because of the strike I stopped following baseball completely. I still have 10,000+ cards from the mid-80's to early 90's. Lots of factory sealed sets. Always wanted a 78 Topps set, just to have it for my collection. Never bothered to pick one up but I still wouldn't mind getting it one day.

All my cards are at my mom's house. She knows better than to throw them away after her mom threw away a bunch of my dad's cards when he went off with the Army in the late 60's for a year. Cards he had would be valued in the thousands now I'm sure. Oh well. I'm hanging on to my cards for a while, if not for monetary value then for sentimental value. Maybe I'll sell em one day to buy hamburger or something.

Went to watch the Braves vs. the Red Sox last night. Up until a week ago I thought it would be cool to see Nomar, then a friend told me he was on the DL. Proved to myself that I don't follow baseball AT ALL. Nomo was pitching and stunk up the place. Braves clobbered the Sox 8-0.

Here's all my autographed balls:

Ball #1 caught in batting practice day before (1991)
Mattingly (1st), Espinoza (SS), Eric Plunk (relief pitcher), Hensley Muelens (OF top prospect who ultimatly never made it), John Hayban (RP), Manny Ramirez, Dell Alson (?), Stump Merrill (manager), Tony Kubek (announcer), Frank Howard (batting coach), Randy Velarde (2nd)

Ball #2 little league ball (1998)
Shawn Green (OF Blue Jays/Dodgers)

Ball #3 old timers day ball bought at Yankee Stadium
Phil Rizzuto (the coolest old guy I've ever met; he signed my ball "Holy Cow" HOF '94. How awesome is that?)

Ball #4 AAA minor league ball (1996, or 1997?)
Ruben Rivera (was suppose to be the next great Yankee outfielder; traded him away for Irabu, and never panned out with any other team)

Ball #5 little league ball (1997?)
Yamil Benitez (top propect of Royals, also never turned out)

I also have a Derek Jeter Rookie card signed while he was in the minors. I live 30 miles from a farm team of Baltimore; went to about 5-10 games a year for a long time; I could have had almost anyone's autograph I wanted that played in the International League. Mariano Rivera, Carlos Delgado, Shannon Stewart, all those big guys, I never 'bothered'. If I knew then... Oh well, its not like I'm selling any of this anyway. Worth to much to me.

jaydee,

I never new that was a good year for Donruss Cards. Learn something new everyday! I'll have to check mine out now :)

BTW..Im jealous! I never got a chance to catch any foul balls. The closest place to go and watch a baseball games were I live was in Cincinnati; the REDS. I do remember years ago when they was playing the Dodgers and the Reds were down by 3 runs going into the 9th inning and everyone or most everyone left in the 8th inning thinking they was going to loose. Bottom of the 9th with the bases loaded two outs and a full count Johnny Bench hits a Grad Slam and won the game!! I'll never forget that day! He has been my favorite baseball player ever since that day. :) That was over 20+ years ago I bet.

Also does anyone know of a site you can look up your baseball cards and see what todays vaule is? Michael does the site you posted above do this? I took a quick look but didnt see any prices.

Thanks!

You can't look up prices online, unless you go to beckett's site and buy a subscription. You are better off going to Barnes and Noble or you local card shop and buying a becketts price guide.

gitty-up - If you have any Phillies cards from the 70's and 80's - especially 1980 I would be glad to take them off your hands - cash or trade.
