I just did a slackware install but still it seems bloated to me if I do anything but base(which I have not tried yet by itself), and I was wondering if the base package would contain a dchp client with all the things I need to get a connection off an ethernet. Isn?t most of the kernel code tcp/ip code anyways?

oops. Thought I was posting on OS form.

slackware is bloated?.. this is something i hear all the time about many distro's "it's too bloadted".. you know you can install only the packages you want if you do a custom install... nope most of the kernel isnt tcpip its modules (oh ya linus said we can call the drivers now) for diff types of hardware... http://www.kernel.org ... well anyway, you can pick and choose what you want.. good luck....
