Seeing them jump off like that reminds me of the poor souls who jumped from the World Trade Center to escape the fire.

I wonder what alternatives they have from leaving the tower if there is a fire and the stairs/elevators are damaged.

Nice, at least they did not have to sneak into the building to Base Jump. :awe:

I see your video and raise you one:

They jumped illegaly before it was completed and got away with it, although one of the guys went back a second time with another jumper and did it again and got caught...apparently they're both still in Dubai prison

I think I could skydive, I mean, I have nightmares about falling but I think I could do it. Jumping off a building like that, though? Noooooo way.

I could have sworn that the basis behind basejumping was to do it all sneaky-like and not get caught. These guys had permission adn adds and everything. Feh. Not a real basejump in my mind.

Once someone sneaks a 'chute to the top floor and does it all illegal-style, then they'll get respect :)

I'm sure they consider your opinion to be a 'real opinion' too.

Awesome. I thought there was another group that did it while it was under construction though, or was that another building?

I would love to try that one day. I'm guessing it takes pretty good training though, you need to know exactly when to open up the parachute. Too early and you'll hover all over the place and maybe run into a building, too late and well, SPLAT!.

BASE jumping requires nothing of the sort, it just happens that they happen to need to be sneaky in order to get to most of the suitable jump spots.

Many of the more professional base jumpers simply choose to stay out of the illegal side of things, sticking to more suitable earthen locations and if using metropolitan locations, getting permission.

Being illegal is not a requirement of base jumping at all. It just happens to be a common issue since there is rarely encouragement.
There are some bridges where base jumping is legally permitted without specific documentation required.

Also, too early and you may not be stable. It takes time after a jump to really be considered in a stable fall, where the achieved free fall speed helps enable more control over your body. If you're not stable while falling, say, tumbling a bit, opening the chute can be problematic.

Jumping from the top of a pyramidal structure doesn't sound safe to me. Course I can't get the damn video to work.

Why didn't they use those winged suits, squirrel suit things or whatever? I'd like to glide out to the ocean using one of those things.
