I've got myself this for my new setup.

- p3 700e fcpga [cb0 stepping]
- a GoldenOrb cooler for the cpu.
- Abit slotket!!!
- Abit bf6
- 131mb pc100 ram [yea i know this'll be a limiting factor but i've got no money now]
- Hercules GF2mx 32mb [but also got a v3 3k lying around]

Now here's my one question. What would you guys say would be a 'safe' point to o/c this thing to? and by 'safe' I mean to the point where it's stable w/ my current setup.

Wanting to find out as I'm currently putting everything together and whant to get a basis for the cpu as to what I can safely have it at and it's limits. I know I COULD possibly get it up to 1ghz but, then I'd need a better cooling setup.\

Any help would be appreciated!

Your pc100 ram is going limit you in some respect as it might not be stable at 133mhz (which seems to be the most likely highest you'll get with a 700e), if it is, you will probably have to run it at cas 3, which is not to desireable.

The "safe point" is overclock it as long as it is stable, and up your voltage no more than 1.85v.

RealScud-

How is it possible for you to have 131 MB of memory in your system? Memory modules only comes in power of two increments (i.e. 4,8,16,32,64,128,etc.). Do you mean you have 131,072 kB of memory? That's still 128 MB cuz there are 1,024 bytes in one kB, one thousand kB in one MB, and 128 MB in one module = 131,072 kB. I think that's the right calculation but I could be wrong... but you still probably get what I'm saying right?

that PC100 might be fine, micron -8E (pc100) often goes well over 140 at CAS3, mine did 148. let us know how she goes.

Erector..

You are right in the 128. I only said the 131 becuase well half of it is RAM i've been using for a while and that I bought myself, the other half is RAM i took out of my sister's computer and put into mine.

Killrose - If I put it up to 133mhz w/ my pc100 will it just eventually screw up the RAM? The RAM situation is the thing I'm trying to learn about cause I haven't seen too many things talking about the CAS 2/3/2 stuff or whatever..

And I'll keep this updated with however it goes..still waiting tho on my GoldenOrb..just hope it gets here earlier than 5 o'clock..

Haha of course that would happen, almost as SOON as i finished posting my last message the UPS man came and dropped off my orb. So immedietly I went and popped that puppy on. And it's workin like a charm..only one prob. System won't boot...I think there may be something wrong with the HD [i'm not totally sure]. All I can get it to do is go through finding the pci cards and then it says I have a bad boot disk [guess a reformat is in order].

Will keep updated on what happens..
