Barton's multiplier locked?

I currently have this motherboard and a Duron 600. I would like to upgrade my processor and since the Bartons seem to be much more prevelant than the Thoroughbreds and have double the L2 I was thinking of getting a 2600 version of that. The problem is that my MOBO only supports a 266 FSB whereas the Barton runs at 333 stock. I was therefore wondering if I got a Barton could I run it at 266x7.5? Or does the CPU not allow this.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Older Bartons (before week 31? 2003) were not multiple locked. Mobile bartons are not locked either. However, I am not sure either can run on your mb... Looks like the compatibily list of your mb says 2500+ is not supported.

you would be better off getting a new mobo i think. The board and chipset is very important in today's cpu world. A newer board would offer significant performance over an older one. You could do a cheaper board with the nf2.

I also don't think you can lower the multiplier. On my 2600+ barton the multiplier is locked up and down but fsb is changeable. the slowest barton is 10.5 multiplier i think. That would be a ~1.4Ghz clock if it were ran at fsb base 133.

There is some confusion here. 266 is actually the FSB times 2 (because the ram is DDR, double data rate). In other words, 266 is the cpu running at FSB I33. So ur formula is corrected to be I33 x 7.5.

Look into a Mobile Barton, which runs stock at FSB I33 (or 266 ddr). The multi is unlocked so you run a high multi (if ur mobo offer the option) to acheive a high cpu clock speed
