Now how come the desktop 512M Barton is listed as 2500+ at 1.83Ghz while the mobile 512M Barton is listed as 2600 AT 2.133?????

That means the mobile is really a lot slower clock for clock than the desktop, despite the same cache.

Are there other differences between the chips????

It's because the FSB on the mobile is slower I think. Similar to how 2200/1883 X 2500 = 2920, whereas in actual fact the 2200 mhz on the 3200+ rating is only at 2200, because it's got a 200 mhz fsb vs. the 166 fsb of a 2500+

I think that the mobile one is rated at 133 fsb. If not then my answer wouldn't be right, but I think it is the case, and would definitely explain a higher clock rate without the seeming linear increase in + rating.

The mobile chips are all 133(266) front side bus whereas the regular desktop bartons are 166(333) or 200(400).

2600+mobile = 16x133 = 2.13 (1.45v, $108)
2500+regular = 11x166 = 1.83 (1.65v, $75)
2800+regular = 12.5x166 = 2.08 (1.65v, $113)
3000+regular = 13x166 = 2.16 (1.65v, $158)

The mobiles are a really good deal considering they are unlocked and have super low voltage to begin with.
The best bargain overall is the 2500+ but they're locked now. So if you want good overclocking you gotta get mobile.

I've passed 2.4Ghz on default voltage with my 2600+mobile and a poor-overclocking NV7-133R.

I HAVE BOTH CPUS, TRUST ME ON THIS, BUY A MOBILE.

THE DESKTOP 2500 IS A GARBAGE CPU NEXT TO THE MOBILE 2600.

Where can you buy a Mobile Athlon XP 2600+? Does it have 512 KB of L2 cache? Is it worth it for me to buy one when my Atlon XP 2400+ is running at 2.5 Ghz on a 400Mhz fsb? Will the mobile chip overclock better than mine?

Thank you.:beer::)

It isn ot worth it. you will not notice a difference. Most of them are only hitting 2.5-2.5. SOme thit 2.6, but it seems rare
