Barton vs. Thoroughbred Question

I just got a Thoroughbred 2400+ Retail. I'm debating whether or not I should just sell it and get a Barton 2500+. How great is the performance difference? Is it noticeable?

If I wanted to overclock my thoroughbred 2400+, do I need to unlock it? I'm getting kind of confused as to whether or not it needs to be unlocked first.

It's already unlocked, just overclock to your heart's content. BTW, if you were planning on overclocking why didn't you get a 2500?

I didn't get a 2500 because right now, Fry's isn't running any combos with a 2500. Second, aren't the Barton 2500+ cpus locked now?

Also, I'm generally not an overclocker because I usually don't have time to sit around fiddling with different settings and testing stability. Furthermore, my case doesn't have enough cooling power for overclocking. My case only has space for the CPU HSF and 1 case fan on the back panel

I was thinking that over Winter Break, I'll have time to overclock and test stability. And I was already planning on cutting a few holes to mount some more fans. My T-Bird is already running a bit on the hot side now, as it is.

In any case, right now, I'm leaning towards returning the combo, because by the time I get time to work on it, the return/exchange period will be over. I'd rather work on it when the return/exchange period is still valid just in case I get some DOA components. I don't want to bother with the warranty, I'd rather just take a quick trip to the store for an exchange.

Just keep in mind even know the new Barton 2500s are locked, you can still run them on a 200FSB (you want to raise the FSB rather than the multiplier anyway if it was a choice) and get to 3200+ speeds.
