Barton on a KT133A... No Go

I tried my XP2500+ in my Asus A7V133 rev 1.05 (KT133A) and it boots, doesn't properly detect the speed but is multiplier unlocked so I can adjust as necessary. Windows loads but BSODs right after the desktop appears. I tried reinstalling Windows but it seems that I have to "retry" copying the files a lot so I gave up. Memtest86+ doesn't want to load either. The '+' sign blinks, but that's it.

Oh well, I gave it a shot. I didn't think it'd work, but unless someone knows how to get it working... :p

i had a similar issue with my first prescott 2.8e just before i returned it
maybe it has something to do with the hot weather these days

did u try clearing the cmos ?
make sure it isn't giving it too much voltage either

I think he meant a CPU not being officially supported.

I cleared the CMOS... upped the voltage to what a Barton should be... no go. Kinda works, but mostly not really. I don't think the BIOS knows how to deal with the cache or something.

I had to run my cpu at 100 fsb to get pc133 ram to work in a k7s5a for a friend. It wouldn't even post at 133.

Did you try flashing to the latest BIOS? Often that adds support for the latest CPU's.

What bios are you using? I just got a 2100+ (obviously not a barton) working on my kt133 mobo (A7V) w/o a problem @ 2.2ghz @ stock voltages. Check out www.a7vtroubleshooting.com for lots of helpful info... it's an awesome site for the A7V series of boards (all the way up to modern ones).

Edit: working link :) A7Vtroubleshooting.com

I have the latest Asus released beta BIOS. I'll look into that site and see if I can dig up more info.

Sounds good... I'm sure someone there can give you a yes or no answer... they seem to have a lot of experience over there! Let us know what happens please... I'm very interested!

I'm very suprised the computer booted at all and loaded Windows to the desktop. I'm limited by low multipliers so I'll have to do the multiplier trick to get the higher ones. So the max speed is 1600MHz without doing any mods.

It's just my XP2500+ that I replaced with a XP2500+ mobile and I'm hoping I can put it to use :)

WobbleWobble, any update on this? I am working on an old system that I want to upgrade as well and have a similar setup laying around.
