ok I had a qeustion. I have a first version 1.0 Asus A7N8X-Deluxe and I was thinking of getting a barton (+2500) to OC. I have a +2100 in it now OC@2.3Ghz but I would like to see if I could get a barton core to run at 2.4 or higher. are the barton cores still hit or miss? Also I'm almost positive my fsb will be limited so running a 200 or higher is out of the question. I need to use the mutipliers to get and speed out of it. People claimed when I got my 2100 that the Nforce 2 boards could change the mmultiplier in the bios. I tried this with my 2100 Thoroughbred B core and it doesn't work.(it just turns black and I have to restart and reset the bios). Can the first generation Nforce 2 boards change the multipliers of the barton cores?

Not really too sure. My 2500 is at 2.2(11x200) on default voltage, but needs 1.775 to get to 2.3 (11x210). It could be my cheap memory holding me back. From what I've seen 2.4 is a pretty high goal right off the bat. Even if you only get it up to 2.3 the extra cache helps performance out quite a bit.

EDIT: Using an A7N8X Deluxe Rev 1.04 and multipliers freely changed, but with a max of 12.5 on my 2600 Tbred B and 2500.

Hey Shimmishim.... are there P4 boards around that allow for fsb ajustments, multiplier ajustments and all with a good AGP/PCI lock?

Highly doubtful you'll get the Barton to run @ 2.4GHz without extreme cooling and the fact that you have an early Rev of that MoBo.

Best newer P4 Mobo's that OC FSB IMO is the ASUS and Abit

yea mitch i don't see you getting past ~2.35 with vcores lower than 1.8V
you'd probably be best just sticking with your 2100 oc to 2.3.
a barton will not be any different...well maybe a lil faster but i doubt you'd notice.

Strictly FSB overclocking on P4's no multiplier adjusting, and P4 boards had the PCI/AGP lock first ;)

have you updated the BIOS to the latest ver ? ?

I've got a 2500 Barton on a A7N8X rev 104, running @ 2400mhz, 200 X 12.
The board wouldn't recognize the chip till I flashed the BIOS to the newer one.
