Availibility:
No

No.

Just 2 weeks too early to list them I guess. That $728 price tag for the 3000+ at one store might startle some people. But I think it is what AMD needs.

If they are already listed on some sites, it may not be a paper launch but an actual launch on Feb 7. BTW did you notice that the 3000+ is only clocked at 2.18GHz.

at least this time AMD didn't paper launch Barton
i hope they've learnt their lesson after the past paper launches

As far as I have seen the release date was supposed to be Feb 10. But who cares about a couple of days. I was always under the impression that the 3000+ would be 2.27 GHz, not 2.17 GHz. As for the statement that since it is on pricegrabber it cannot be a paper launch, I say we will have to wait and see.

More grist for the rumor mill.....compliments of HardOCP

Bartons for All?
We have all seen the rumored mid-February launch of AMD Barton core CPUs talked about. After the last two AMD launches I am sure many of your are shaking your heads thinking, "Another paper launch, whoopteee whoop."

We have it on very good authority that the Barton launch will not be just another paper launch for AMD. Distributors are telling us to expect AMD Barton PIBs (Processor in a Box) carrying 2800+ and 3000+ ratings to be available and in stock in quantity by the middle of February.

[snip]

All in all, AMD seems to be listening to you guys out there and is stepping up to the plate when launching new CPUs. I am sure this is something we are all happy to see.

Intriguing anyway....

xp3000 2.16GHZ, XP2800 2.08GHZ, its funny how amd charges $250 for a measly 80mhz speed increase over the xp3000. Hopefully the xp2500 should be able to hit xp3000 speeds.;)

Yah, they are factoring in the ~15% performance increase of the 512 L2 cache into the PR rating, so clock speeds will be lower. Reports say that the 2500+ Barton will be clocked slower than a 2400+ T-bred B. Which is more reason to buy a T-bird B now and wait to see how Barton OC's (and a few stepping revisions) and to allow it to drop in price.

Yea, but the cache on it is supposed to give it a larger boost, hence the lower clockspeed.

Exactly. For instance, the 2800+ Barton is clocked lower than the 2800+ T-bred B, b/c they are factoring in performance increases into the PR. This is similar to what they did with the 2600+ and 2800+ T-bred B variants with 266mhz-bus and 333mhz-bus. The 333mhz bus variants are clocked slightly lower b/c they are factoring in FSB performance increases. So what it comes down to, until we see how the Barton's OC, is that you MAY end up paying MORE for a chip that performs WORSE than a T-bred B based on the T-bred B's OC'ability. For the same PR rated chip, you'll have a lower stock speed, which will be compounded by any OC the T-bred B can achieve over the Barton core.

Of course, for those of us who AREN'T into OC'ing *gasp* sorry, that's me. The Barton chip is much more interesting b/n now and the Athlon64.

I am simply glad that:

1. It appears (yes, we must wait to see if it is truly so) AMD is going to have Barton's in mid-February and this won't be a tedious paper launch. This was suspected due the general unavailability of 2800+ Athlon's.
2. Barton will be competive with P4's while AMD brings out the Hammer (speculation on my part until benches are done).

Speaking of benches, if production quantities will be available shortly, shouldn't there be some reviews of said chip? Maybe NDA's have something to do with it.

oh yeah...Dr. Chiz in the house ;)

I agree with PrinceXizor. I think the odds are that it is not a paper launch, but we will see on the 10th (the date that is suppsed to be when they launch, and most likely when the reviews will hit). I also think that most likely the XP3000+ will be on par with the 3.06 P4 HT. 11 days till we find out I think.

Crosses finger's* Hopefully not another paper launch, but I can't wait to see the benchies for the Bartons. Finally some new tech hitting the market...FX...Barton... XP prices should dip even lower...this should be a good year for computer nerds....

The transition between January/February is always a good one. Companies don't want new products to come in just before Christmas since they likely are too late by then for the Christmas rush (if it isn't ready by mid-Nov they can pretty much forget it). They also for obvious reasons don't want a price cut right before their busiest time. Then customers who got all these goodies at Christmas don't want to see new technology and low prices just a week later so early January is also a bad time for price cuts/new releases. That means in Feb we see several months worth of price cuts and new products hitting us all at once.

I don't think I'm the only one here who is excited and can't wait to see the benchmarks. Competition is excellent for consumers and I'd really like to see AMD make a good comeback.
