If you are in the mood for a new AMD powered cruncher will you go with a new Barton or a Tbread? The prices on the Tbreads should go down when the Barton Comes out.

I might, depending on what Anand and Evan report in their review. They can't publish until the official launch... think I'll be up late that night :D

I am needing to get a new motherboard soon, as the AGP is dead on my K7S5A, I have my GF4 Ti4200 sitting on top of the monitor in an anti-static bag, cos the computer locks up after less than an hour if it's in :(

So, depending on when I have the money to get a new motherboard, and possibly processor, I will have to see what's the best bang for buck and overclockability out there :)

If all goes well, and i'm offered job that i've got interview for tomorrow, then I could well be getting the new stuff in a couple of weeks, so in that case, it will probably be an Epox 8RDA+, and TBred 1700+/2000+ :)

It's an MSI Ti4200 128MB, DVI/TV-Out. It has been working on that mobo/cpu/ram combination for ~4 months, but only been having problems in past 3 weeks. Card is OK in family's P4 rig, their card (same as mine) also locks up my machine. It's not drivers, as I have reinstalled Windows, and different drivers, and still problems.

With a PCI card (Voodoo 3 2000) it's fine (although it performs crap in games compared to the GF4 ;))

i plan on getting a Tbred when the barton comes out.
i hope that 2100+ Tbred gets down to around 50-60. which it probably will when the bartons come out.
might be wishful thinking. but i doubt it

A retail Barton 2500+ should be in the $195 area, if that helps. Intel has a price cut planned for late February, so it might not be long before AMD had to cut theirs too. jonnyGURU put up a little performance preview here and what you can take away from that is that his Barton overclocked more than 20% on stock voltage. Definitely not another Tbred 2200+, which couldn't OC much upon release.

I've been considering building a pentium rig sometime soon. All the systems i've ever built have been AMD, but I'd like to give the P4 a try if i can get a good deal on one!

Since Athlon 64 is delayed I think I will be getting a Barton when they come out.

I'm also still considering what to buy.. I never ever had an AMD system, so I might give it a try. And when I do, it will be a Barton...

But on the other hand, with the new chipset from Intel (Granite Bay) which has very nice features, I might choose that one...
And the prices aren't that much of a different between AMD and Intel lately..

I need something new, but I really don't know what...

Enermax 350W, although as I said in reply to Tetsuo316, it has only been causing errors in the past couple of weeks, and i've had the exact same setup for months :)

I will get a pair of the lowest-clocked Bartons once Intel releases a higher clocked P4 to drop prices a bit. Hopefully, the XP-to-MP unlock procedure is still just a matter of closing the L5 bridges. :)
