BARTON 2900+ QUESTION

I'm thinking about getting one of these since I might be able to get it for a good price.
But before I do, I was wondering... is there's any reason why it won't work on an NForce2 mobo like my Shuttle AN35N-Ultra?

This chip apparently wasn't meant for end users, so most mobo manufacturer's aren't gonna mention support for it, and I hear AMD doesn't even list the product. So I was wondering if it's gonna require a special BIOS for it or if I can just pop it in and be good to go.

I think it's just a BARTON 2800+ w/ 400 FSB. I've read some have tried it with their mobos and it would boot but wouldn't be recognized as Barton 2900+.

I have the mobile Barton 2800+ as well..though I think it's 333mhz not 400. But, from what I hear you can jack up the FSB close to 400. Haven't tried it yet though. I have the AN35N Ultra as well, and the processor works beautifully with it. Windows willl say "unknown cpu type", but otherwise the mainboard doesn't give any probs. Since the cpu is unlocked, you can change the multiplier in the BIOS as well - No problems there. I've managed to do 166 x 14 with it (still using 1gb of pc2700). Anything more than 14 and it defaults to 1250mhz. For me, the most stable it's been with gaming and whatnot has been 13.5 x 166 (2.25ghz) ..but when I get my 500w psu tomorrow, I think it'll be more stable at 2.33ghz. The chip doesn't heat up too much either...I'm using a Zalman heatsink / fan (the funky copper peacock feather looking one). Voltagewise, the default is around 1.48v ... so I think up to 1.6v is safe. It's a good cpu and it hasn't given me any probs - and the Shuttle An35 series boards work well it it. 🙂
