Hey guys, what do I need to do in order to get my 2800+ matched up with my PC3200 memory? I know the CPU is locked at 12.5, so what do I do in order to raise the FSB to 200?

EDIT: I'm not an experienced CPU overclocker, as I have not dabbled in it much.

Just set the FSB to 200MHz and make sure the ratio is set to 1:1. And hope that your CPU is good for the overclock. You may have to raise Vcore considerably.

Well, the newer locked chips aren't the safe bet that the older Bartons were. I say go for it now, you'll never know until you try right?

What CPU cooler do you have on that chip anyways? Nevermind, I see it in your rig link. You might not be able to do it with that cooler, just give it a shot.

OK, 200 was a no-go, it wouldn't laod windows, I got it to 180 tho, better than 166 :) I'll see how the temps and stability are. Come winter time tho my room becomes an igloo, i'm looking forward to that

EDIT: alright, I upped the voltage from 1.65 to 1.7 and everything seems ok, i'll see how it handles a loop of 3dmark01, haha and also, I changed my HSF from the middle fan RPM to the highest, I still can barely hear it, and my temps are now the same as they were with stock when i'm in the desktop.

Did you get 200Mhz when you upped the voltage? If so, for you. If not, keep working on it.

No, I didn't get 200 at all :( I'll keep trying tho, seeing as how I don't plan on having this processor more than a year more anyway :) 180 from 166 seems decent to me tho, everything's stable at least!

if you can't get 200, but it starts to boot windows, i'd say you will be safe to try at least 190 FSB.
I cant' quite get 200 on my system.. UT2004 locks up after about 30 mins. I don't consider that stable, so I run at 195 FSB :)
mine is a first generation unlocked Barton 2500+ too.

already tried, 194 is the LIMIT, anyhing over that, windows won't start, no matter what I adjust, I guess my CPU wasn't a natural born overclocker.

nothing to sneeze at. :D You already have a cpu that is worth more than the amount you purchased it for :p

well it's already a 2800+
i wouldn't expect much more out of it than that, to be honest.
194 is decent for a 2800
