barton 2800 vs P4 2.66

As a gamer, which proc is going to give me the most bang for my buck? or is there a better option. Im also going to be getting a new mobo and ram to with.

Video card would be a more important factor there. Anything less than a GeForce4 Ti440 and those CPU's with both probably push the video card to it's limits.

Better idea still, buy a 2500+, save yourself a heap of cash, overclock it to 2800+ speeds, and then spend the extra money on another upgrade. Sorted!

XP2800??? that's all??? =) I'm not even getting as good an overclock as some people are... some people are nearing 2.4 Ghz... I blame that on my crappy RAM and unwillingness to go above 1.75 V =)

gaming = amd - its got a smarter video processing handle and unique pipelines to handle 3D intructions

normal/business use = p4 -architecture built for processing more complex data and has faster fsb, that means synchrony memory timings

OC even tho ur not into it = p4 -its more stable but recently the 2800+ and above cpus are pretty decent

dont forget the Athlon 2800+ comes in two flavours .. the Barton and the Tbred
if you play First person shooters the Tdred is what u want with its higher clock but if you play RTS games the Barton wins out with more cash to handle all those units ~ on screan ... i'm hanging out for Homworld 2 so i got a 2500+ Barton

As you can see the Pentiums cant match the Athlons for price ... About Stable Gamming System well ive stressed my AMD 2500+ System with Nfoce2 heaps with Divxing movies and playing games left it running for a week without restating and had not 1 problem !!!Stable as can be... remember the better Qty Ram you have the more Stable your computer will run !! no matter what CPU u pick from above !

i Too Recomend the 2500+ ... its price is sexy and with the Money you save you can get just that little bit better videocard ... IE Geforce 5900 or Radion 9800

Either way lets face it this system is just too tide you over until the AMD64 Comes out or the P4 Equivalent

1. P4 isnt more stable. Stability is effected by many factors, not just CPU.

2. Intel's P4 is ridiculously priced in comparison to AMD equivalents. So your going to notice that 5% increase, or would money be better spent on something else?

3. Business use "p4 better" ? funny that, even anandtech's review doesnt agree

those chips are a better deal imo than the equivalent P4 solutions

If you ever plan on getting a DVD RW drive to make/record movies. MP3 conversions and so fourth. Intel is the clear winner.
If all you'll do is gaming. AMD will be good enough.
