Before I start, I know that there is no T'Bred B 2500+. I said it as a theoretical thing.

The question I pose to you is what kind of benefit does the extra Cache give the Barton at the equivilent clockspeed :)clock:speed)assuming that everything is the same to a reasonable point?

Im planning on Nforce2 soon as some of you may know from my other threads. Ive got 1 very nice store in the UK lined up with my board and RAM but it leaves me the question on CPU.

I plan to overclock and I want this system to able to hold its own for a while. This store sells the XP 2100+ currently for £66 and the Barton 2500+ sells for £103.

I know their overclocking limits on air are 'roughly'speaking the same but the Barton uses the 333 FSB native and has the extra cache.

Maybe Im just prattling on about something Im sure you already know so I'll shut up and let you post

All things being equal (FSB, clockspeed, system platform, GPU etc.), the Barton is roughly 5-10% faster in apps that are able to make use of the extra L2 (games, general use and business apps). You need to look no further for a head to head comparison than Anand's Barton 3000+ review. Just look at 3000+ results and compare them to the 2700+'s scores (identical clockspeed).

Assuming you'll be able to clock your Barton as far as your T-bred B, you simply have to ask yourself is 5-10% improved performance worth the extra money.

I'll have my 2500+ Barton tomorrow. Should have some preliminary results later in the evening.

The problem at the minute is that the 2100+'s here are DUT3C not LT3C.
