if money weren't an object .. p4 2.4c .. i've been really wanting the P4C series. But after looking at my budget .. that might not be viable.

It all depends on what yur gonna be doin with it.... but

In my opinion, I would get the Barton 2500, because of the fact that between the cpu and a good nforce2 mobo compared to the p4 2.4c and a good mobo (865 or 875 chipset) you save about $150 which could be put into nice ram , hard drive or graphics card.
Their performace levels are closer than most people think, and with that money you save you could get a good heatsink and oc up to the speeds of a Barton 3200 easily.

That's just my opinion

I thought these kind of threads were not welcome.

Anyway, I say AMD. So much better value, and the value get even better if you consider the cost of a nforce mobo vs. cost of intel mobo + soundcard. Plus you can use cheaper ram if you are not into overclocking.

the pentium seems to be the fan favorite this time around. As for gaming, the athlon and pentium are about the same. THeyre all about the same. If your media encoding get the pentium. If your on a tight budget get the athlon. Its all preference really.

maybe ;)

there's also a very good chance you'll be able to overclock the 2500+ to 3200+ with stock heatsink as well

wow mixed answers, do any of you think the $80 more for the p4 2.4c is worth it?

well it's more than $80 more because the quality intel mobos are more pricey than the quality nforce2 mobos

here's how i would decide. do you usually use a lot of applications at once? like play games while downloading/encoding stuff and listening to music? if so, then go with the 2.4C because the HT will give you better performance.

I don't know where you people get your prices on the difference between the cost of an AMD vs. Intel system, but some of your quites are insane. I've seen quite a few mentions of people hitting 3.0ghz with a 2.4C retail HSF. I've never seen anyone claim to hit 3200+ with a 2500+ Barton. The 3.0ghz P4 will be faster then the 3200+ AMD. The mobo's are similar price. There are value boards based on the nforce2 and springdale/canterwood chipsets under $100. There are full featured boards for both above $150. That cost is roughly equal. The retail P4 2.4C should run you $173 at Newegg. The 2500+ Barton will run you $96 + ~$30-$45 for the aftermarket HSF you'll for a chance at 3200+. Hence, the price difference for the higher performing P4 is an additional $50 at the very most. I find it kind of funny to see all these price differences in the $100+ range. I do realize these forums are FULL of AMD fanboys, but when the better performance is elsewhere there's no denying. Just because Intel is the best bang for your buck right now doesn't mean that will be the case in 6 months. Brand loyalty is completely foolish for a computer enthusiast.
