Barton 2500+ oc'd or athlon 64 3000+

I am building a friend a new system and he has a $1200 budget. I have built other comps and had great success overclocking a barton 2500+ to 3200+ on the Abit NF7-S. My friend isnt into upgrading to much, we are aldo getting XMS 512 pc3200 and raptor10k sata and 9800pro 128mg. For the extra costs of the atlon64 I would have to probably skip out on my planned 9800pro.

What do you guys think? Would a 2500 barton oc'd to 3200+ be slightly comparable to a athlon64?

You should easily be able to do the Athlon64 3000+ with that budget. Add it up.

I'm presently burning in my brand new XP2400-M. Fired it straight up to 3200 speeds (2.2 GHZ @ 1.65V) running temps 30C idle 34C full load. Looks like there is plenty of headroom to o/c more when burn-in is complete.

Cost: $77
