Barton 2500+ KQYHA Stepping Overclocking Ability?

I went out today and got a retail Barton 2500+. It's KQYHA, which I havn't heard of before, and a google search didn't really turn up anything other than non-english language sites. Does anyone have one of these or any K- stepping?

Wondering whether I should keep it and try to overclock to 2.2Ghz on my new Asus A7N8X-E board, or go out and spend the extra $50 CND for a mobile one plus extra fan...

i would have went for the mobile in the first place, but since you got it already give it a try and let us know.. maybe it's better than the mobiles!

Well, you'll probably be able to hit 2.2ghz with that chip if your board and RAM are up to it. Unfortunately, the A7N8X-E boards seem to be very picky about the FSB once it gets around 200 FSB. Some make it to 200 FSB and beyond, while others start showing instability around 190 FSB.

I've got the same situation going on with my 8RDA board, as it doesn't like anything over 190-ish FSB. If your board is similar, you'll get the best results with a mobile chip, as you can run at the highest multiplier of 12.5, instead of being locked at 11.0x if you stick with the current chip.

I have the same retail chip. I am running 2.315ghz with KBYTE Ram and ECS nforce 2 board with no voltage adjustments. STOCK!

Whoa sweet... I am going to try this one out. But not today, too late. Time to sleep... I'll post results as soon as I get around to testing it. I don't think I need to worry about the motherboard not reaching 200, since it actually has an advertised FSB400, and I should be able to take it back if it doesn't even reach advertised speeds. A bit ambiguous for sure, but oh well... 🙂

Good results so far.

System runs at 200x11=3200+ stable with 1.650v. Currently using the stock HSF and temps are 50 idle, ~57 load. However, I have DDR333 ram that just refuses to run stable at DDR400 speed, even with the default memory timing it sets for me, which is RAS 9 RCD 4 RP 4 CAS 3. I'll have to keep it back at 166Mhz... oh well. I wasn't able to try undervolting because the A7N8X-E Deluxe only allows me to overvolt. Would have been nice to possibly get some less heat so I can have a quieter case, but oh well I'm happy.

KQYHA is A-Okay for ~3200+ speeds. 🙂
Glad I didn't pay $50 CND more for the mobile XP. 😀

EDIT: By the way, I have no idea whether this thing will run much higher than 2.2Ghz. I think I'm just going to leave it here though. I probably wouldn't get much farther with my A7N8X-E anyway.

I just got one yesterday from Fry's combo. Same stepping. Right now at 11x220=2420 at 1.675v. Prime tested for about 4 hours. Imma gonna try to push it, too bad it is locked.

If that question was for me, as I said I have no idea, and I don't really intend to test because I neither have the appropriate cooling (stock cooler) nor need to take it any higher. I doubt the A7N8X-E would run at 220 FSB.

No, I am stuck at 11x220=2420mhz @1.675. My AN7 refuses to go higher than 220 nomatter what settings. I read up about this and it seems that the AN7 just doesn't want to do it with the default bios. It seems like DFI infinitiy or lan party are the kings of FSB.

And since the barton is locked, I cannot fully exploit its potential. 2420 at 1.675 that gives me reason to believe it can do about 2600 at 1.8 or so or even more.

So is this "superlock" on the bartons at all possible to circumvent? I hear the bridge painting no longer works? Sorry I havn't been keeping up with this.

As far as I have heard, there is absolutely no way to unlock these. I've checked dozens of enthusiast sites. Oh well.

I bought a KQYHA myself today (16th week 2004), so I'm glad it works fine still for 200FSB. Once I find a good mobo for it. 🙂 Thanks for the information!

Cool, exact same week as mine.

HEHEHE, I got rid of my AN7 and went with a DFI Infinity Ultra. I am now stable at 11x228=2508mhz@1.8vcore. I thought my ram couldn't take it at 1:1 with CPC on (2x512mb pc3200 Buffalo CH-5) but it did. I'm gonna try for 2600mhz tomorrow. Hehehehe, gg AN7 and better luck next time!

Well i cant budge my chip above 3000+ speeds, however i have no clue of the stepping. I have to run at 1.8V or it fails Prime 95 in the first 2mins. In fact i haven't run it in a while but now i think it still fails. So im forced to run @10.5x200. Also i am OC 333mhz Kingstoin Value RAM. i Must have gotten a good set because i have had 0 problems. Memtest ran for 24 hours with no errors. maybe ill crank it up some more. As for my A7N8X-E Deluxe, FSB go all the way up to 300 i believe. Not like you coulid make it that hgih as the max voltage you can get is 1.85 (asus Overvolts so probably 1.875-1.9).

Anyone know how i can fix this chip up to run a bit faster. 1.8V seems a lot for my modest OC.

So an update after about 2 weeks of usage. Even though the CPU was stable at 3200+ speeds, I brought it back down to 2500+ because the ~400mhz increase only gave me about 100 extra 3Dmarks. Sure didn't feel faster. I think it may have to do with the fact that at 2500+ FSB333, it's running syncronous with my DDR333 RAM.

Ahhh, I am typing this at 11x236=2600mhz@1.875vcore. As for the ram I still have it running 1:1 2.5-4-4-4-11 dual channel with CPC on. Wow, I am prime testing this all day make sure. After lots of prime I will add pics and stuff.

2600mhz@1.85vcore stable YAY! Temps are about 5c above ambient idle/10c above ambient water cooling. I think I am happy with this.

Ah, sorry, I noticed you actually said it already up there. When I bought my motherboard it was a choice between A7N8X-E and Ultra Infinity (they were out of NF7-S). Too bad I chose the Asus.
