Hi,

About a year ago, I've built a following system:
Barton 2500+Thermaltake Volcano 7+, GA-7N400L, 1024MB, ...

The BIOS version is F1, and the shown temperatures are:
CPU - 40C
MBoard - 38C
Case - 30C
(the room temperature is about 28C).

I've installed the Thermaltake Hardcano 10 panel, and placed the sensor under the heatsink, just about 3mm from the CPU core.
The panel displays: CPU - 43.3C.

The Gigabyte's FAQ says that the F1 shows temperatures 15C below the real ones.
So, I've installed the F6 version, and the BIOS had shown temperatures about 15C higher - 55C. But then, the panel had shown higher temperature as well (about 50C).
So, might it be that the F6 simply heats the CPU ?
(With F1 the panel shows about 43C and with F6 about 50C)
Gigabyte didn't have an answer for the issue.

It would be very helpful to have your advice.

this is due to just irregularities and different methods in reporting cpu temperature
basically what the bios or any program tells you is an arbitrary number IMO, but can be used for comparison with other boards with the same bios

Thanks for the reply.

But, what should I trust - the BIOS or the external measuring panel ?

Good question.
I suppose it depends on a lot of stuff that is tough to say, like how accurate your BIOS temperature is.
Theoretically the BIOS should be the most accurate given the positioning, but after the crazy readings I've gotten and others have gotten who knows.
I just installed a new BIOS version on my abit and Im idling at 23 C... on stock cooling... yeah...

I've seen your rig, impressive :)

My CPU's temperature (according to th e panel) is quite reasonable, becase the room is about 28C and outside it's above 30C.
So, the difference between the CPU and the outer world :) is about 14C-15C.

Sounds fine to me, I wouldnt worry about it too much. Your cooler should handle that chip and a lot more - just run it and if you notice anything weird, then worry about it further.
