Does anyone know if I will be able to change the multiplier in this setup, w/o physically modifying (unlocking?) the CPU? I want to slightly overclock, and I will probably leave the FSB alone and voltage alone. This will be my first attempt at OC'ing, and I am a little leary. I also have Corsair Twin PC2700 RAM (2x 256mb).
I am also planning on OCing my XFX Ti4200 128mb. Are there any negative effects on OC'ing the CPU and the Video card at the same time? I have a Speeze heatsink.
ANY tips on OCing this CPU (settings, voltages, mult, etc.) or tips in general would be much appreciated.

Hello thawolfman17, welcome to the forums :)

As far as unlocking your multipliers without physically modifing your processor. I believe with your motherboard (nforce2 chipset?), it would be possible. I've heard that Tbred B's are unlocked on nforce2 boards. Since Barton is pretty much, a Tbred B with extra cache, I would assume so.

As far as overclocking a Videocard, and CPU at the same time, they are different components. They may interfere with each other. But more than often, they may not. As long as you don't overclock farther than it can handle, I am confident you will have no problems.

I have no idea what a Speeze Heatsink is, I know its some sort of brand, just not sure on its cooling ability. Any idea on your temps?

As far as voltages, go, I wouldn't go over 1.8v. since the micron process is .13, it would be unwise to go any higher, as you may fry your chip.

I must leave now, I will reply again when I get home.

I have the same board and CPU and I cannot select multipliers above 12.5... however, all of them below 12.5, all the way down to 5.5 (I think) are available, which makes for easy overclocking via the FSB... which is what i'm doing now... 221x10=2210. That's a 20% overclock, which is pretty normal. Some people get higher, some people can barely get 10... just out of curiosity, what's the stepping on yoru XP2500?

I have a KT333 but my 2500+ is at 13x166... so its recognized as a 3000+ :D Haven't played around with the FSB yet. Anyway... it's unlocked. :)

Anyone with an A7N8X-Deluxe and Barton 2500+ running at 400MHz DDR/FSB in sync? I am planning on getting these two, along with 2 x 256 Corsair 3500C2 or 3200LL TwinX (not sure yet) and trying to do 400 DDR/FSB sync, wondering what my chances are? (in an Antec Sonata, SLK-900U on the Barton with a Panaflo LowFlow 92mm fan, 120mm intake and outake Panaflo Low Flow as well).

Thanks :)

I just picked up a A7N8X Deluxe v2.0 and 2500+ today. Started it the first time at default and let XP catch up on the drivers (I had a A7N8X Deluxe v 1.04 and a 2400+ @ 2800+). After the reboot, I set the FSB to 200 default volts, no problem. I need to stress it some to see if it will run 3200+ at default, but for a $128 processor I'm happy!

Awesome to hear Chris, that is exactly what I hope to do (2500+ at 400 on a Deluxe 2.0). What is your memory running at?

I just ordered some PC3200 memory with Winbond BH-5 chips... so I'll let ya know how it all works together when I get the RAM.

I'm running 512MB (2x256) Corsair XMS 3200LLPT sync'd CAS 2 @ 11x200FSB. Cooling is a SLK-7(?) HS w/ 80mm YSTech fan. I didn't get the stepping, but it is a retail chip from Newegg. Go here for the uber BIOS with some additional features enabled and the updated SATA BIOS. The board identifies it as a 3200+ @ boot. :D

Doesn't matter what PR rating the motherboard gives it... I've seen a Shuttle AK31 call an XP1700 an XP2200 when I change the FSB to 166 and changed the multiplier to 9.

Sweet, that's the RAM I am getting as well (PC3200LL TwinX), must run nice at that speed with the extra cache :)
