Bartn 2500+ stock speed stock cooling is 45 idle, 49 load... isn't that high?

Hey all, I picked up a barton 2500+ and was running it stock at these speeds on my 8rDA+ latest bios. My ambient is 28 degrees, so isn't this chip running hot? I'm using AS2.

I've since OC the chip, stock voltage, stock cooling still, to 3200+ speed swith the 200mhz fsb, and idles 47, load is 51. I'm definitely happy with the fairly cool OC, but aren't these temps high? Does the newer bios record heat higher then it actually is? I'm sure everything is seated correctly, and the AS2 is definitely put on right... I've done dozons of these.

Oh, and before anyone asks, stepping: AQXEA 0323 . Seems to go up to at least 2.3 with stock voltage, may actually be my mobo stopping me from going higher as my 8rda+ is revision 1.1

Temps are alright. Nothing to be worried about. You might want a better HSF if you're planning on ocing more though.

Those temps are perfectly fine... absolutely nothing to worry about. That's actually low for stock cooling.

I would question the swing in temps from idle to load...1) Is that actually loading it??? or 2) Are those temps just plain bogus....

Stock cooling usually suffers from slower speed fans and thus slower cfm numbers and thus when ramping up utilization should result in much larger swing in temps. My 1600xp not rodded at all with default vcore and decent after market cooler has easily a 11-12c swing in temps from idle to extreme p95 loading...

Wouldn't worry bout it. Like the other guy said, especially in summertime, unless of course you're in a well A/C'd room... My 2000+ is OC'd to 1.78 w/ voltage at 1.85 and it runs about the same as yours(I just got a 2500+ so as soon as my damn video will get working I'll see how that does heatwise), then again the room I'm in is about 85F all the time... I'm also running Volcano 9cu HSF (or was it a 7...) w/a shitload of other fans, so for stock that's pretty good too.

i get 43 idle when i bumped the voltage to 1.7 w/slk800 and Smart fan on highest. very high room temps though cuz of summer

Actually I've noticed that with Bartons the temperature difference isn't as great as with Thoroughbreds... I think it probably has to do with the larger core. Mine is 51C right now running SETI (taken from thermal diode), idle it's 42. When it's at stock settings, it's 38 idle, and 44 under load. I kinda doubt he's taking readings from the thermal diode, it's more than likely from a temp sensor on the board, so that will take even longer for the temp to rise.

Which brings up another point... if you're not sure if your temp reading is coming from the diode or a sensor on the board somewhere... if it's coming from the diode, once you put a load on the CPU, it should come up to it's max temp withing 10-15 seconds... if it takes longer, it's a reading from somewhere outside the CPU.
Someone brought up that point a while back... said something along the lines of "you're talking about a few grams of silicon creating 60-80 watts of thermal energy, it's not going to take more than a few seconds for the temperature to change."

That's not bad, mine ran 3 to 4 degrees warmer. Of course I was oc'ing it, tho.

There is nothing to be worried about :) fine temp. in fact you should be happy with it as there is no way we can achieve that temp by using a stock HSFk in my place.
almost all the amd rigs in my country run @~45 (thermalright HSF), ~50 (budget HSF) and ~57-60(stock HSF) , as our ambient temp is around 30-33c :) there is no way for us to get a temp which is below 40c unless we switch on our air-con ;)
