Scientology promoted in Bart Simpson's voice
Jan. 30, 2009, 3:39 PM EST
NEW YORK (AP) -- Bart Simpson is known for prank calls, but Nancy Cartwright, who provides Bart's voice on "The Simpsons," has been heard this week in a phone message using the voice of the cartoon fourth-grader to promote Scientology.

Cartwright, long a member of the church, recorded her 60-second robocall to boost attendance at a Scientology event scheduled for Saturday.

Although she identifies herself, much of the spiel is delivered in Bart's voice, wrapping up with, "See you there, man!"

The Fox network would not comment, but "Simpsons" executive producer Al Jean said the message wasn't authorized by the show, which has never "endorsed any religion, philosophy or system of beliefs any more profound than Butterfinger bars."

Eh, who the hell cares.
It's one big joke anyway, a mockery of the absurdness of religion itself. I'm confident that is the point to the 'religion', and that all the big names behind it are in on joke. Most celebs don't blatantly shout out their love for any particular religion - usually it's just an identity and they keep it at that. But in this case, the big names are making it known, loud and clear, what they are, and keep at it. Mocking the structure of recruitment in religion, except in this case they aren't killing anyone to convert them... that would be a big no-no in today's world. But the rest is all there, blatant and obvious.

So, go Bart, Cruise and Katy, and Jada Pinkett Smith (not so sure about Will... he supports Jada and makes donations, but hasn't let the world know whether he is... the true calling card of Scientology... possibly because he doesn't want to see his career take a hit, or maybe because he is a firm believer in a 'real religion').
Make a mockery of religion. I've been doing it for years but have yet to find a truly successful avenue of approach to doing so on a grand scale. Hopefully the true intentions of Scientology are revealed sometime in the near future, because all the coverage of it is getting annoying. Maybe they are just waiting for membership to reach massive levels.
