Steroids do not increase bat speed, and nobody in the world has better bat speed than Bonds.

of course it does
more strength = more bat speed
if the bat seems lighter thanks to your strength you hit faster

Didnt even know there was pro cycling..maybe it DID ruin it. MLB has made it thru a lot over the years...it always rebounds.
Um...."Lance Armstrong" ring any bells? 😉

cycling isn't a sport. 🙂

Hmm...so I guess all other aerobic sports are also not sports. Someone better tell the IOC about this. 😉

Aerobics don't count as sports....

I think he's just messing with me. You know how those Covington folks can be. 😛

IF Bonds was on 'roids, he could now hit the ball 475 feet instead of 375. So what? His skill in reading a pitcher hasn't changed, he just hits for more power now... I would maybe take off the opp field hr's or hr's that barely go off the fence off of his total, but his numbers would still be astounding...

How stupid are you to make this argument? Steroids make you stronger. If you're stronger, the bat feels lighter and you swing faster. A doped up Barry Bonds can use a heavier bat while maintaining his bat speed.

Basically what you're saying is, I can swing any bat I want with the same bat speed because strength has nothing to do with bat speed.

Is this really that complicated?

Do you think a non-doped up Bonds would get the respect that he demands at the plate now? Would he acquire as many intentional walks and do you think pitchers would pitch around him as much as they do now? I think not. His OBP would drop, his home runs would drop, his RBIs would drop, and his assists in the field would drop.

His numbers would be great but it will be no where close to his MVP numbers.

Not that steroids alone can turn someone into one of the greatest hitters of all time.

Well, we don't know that, do we? They were playing major league baseball for about a hundred years before steroids were a factor. Maybe Ted Williams could have hit .500.
He would have hit more than that if he hadn't spent 2 tours of duty in WWII and Korea!

Red,

Ted Williams would have never ever hit .500 regardless of his service to our country. Noone has ever or will ever come close to hitting .500 in the major leagues.

If you are talking about 500 home runs, he hit 521.

actually, barry has ALWAYS been a pretty good for average hitter. if he got more pitches and fewer walks, i suspect his rbi's might stay the same or even go up. his power numbers overall would probably come down.

i'm basing that on the assumption that most of his intentional walks were probably in situations with men in scoring position.
