Barry Bonds: Congress wasting its time with steroid inquiry... HAHAHAHAAHA

WASHINGTON -- In the nation's capital on his first road trip of 2005, Barry Bonds questioned why Congress, the media and fans continue to talk about steroids.

Barry Bonds
Bonds would like everyone to be quiet about steroids -- just like he told people to shush after home run No. 706.

"I think we have other issues in this country to worry about that are a lot more serious. I think you guys should direct your efforts into taking care of that," the San Francisco Giants slugger said Tuesday before facing the Washington Nationals. "Talk about the athletes that are helping Katrina. Ask yourselves how much money y'all personally donated and have helped."

Asked whether Congress was wasting time by looking into steroid use in sports, Bonds responded: "Pretty much, I think so. Yeah."

Several congressional committees have held hearings on drug testing in pro sports, and legislation has been proposed to standardize leagues' drug policies.

"You know what? There are still other issues that are more important," Bonds said. "Right now, people are losing lives, don't have homes, I think that's a little more serious. A lot more serious."

Told of Bonds' comments, Dave Marin, a spokesman for House Government Reform Committee chairman Tom Davis, R-Va., said: "Members of Congress, particularly Tom Davis, can walk and chew gum at the same time."

Congressional investigators from that committee are looking into whether Baltimore Orioles slugger Rafael Palmeiro lied under oath about steroid use and are interviewing other players who know Palmeiro.

Bonds has not been contacted.

"Raffy Palmeiro and I are good friends and we will stay continually good friends. Period. And I will always have respect for him as a person and a player, regardless," Bonds said.

Bonds, booed throughout Tuesday's game, hit his 706th homer in the fourth inning.

As the ball arched toward the stands, fans who moments earlier were booing rose to cheer. Bonds was booed when his name was announced during pregame introductions, booed when he stepped into the on-deck circle, and booed when he went out to play left field.

"I've been tarnished for being in baseball for years and years. There's nothing you guys can write or people can say that's going to fix that. It doesn't matter any more. I go out there and enjoy the game," he said.

It was Bonds' third homer of 2005, and it came in his 18th at-bat. Out all season after three knee operations, he returned to the Giants on Sept. 12.

I mean, i agree it is a waste of time, but seriously, bonds is the LAST guy who should say this. It's like a murder suspect telling the cops to not pay attention to the murder weapon. It makes his guilty @$$ look even worse.

I completely agree with him. Why should CONGRESS care about baseball? MLB should care, not the U.S. Government.

 with Bonds. Without the juice he'd have no "records" and, frankly, I'm all for taking his records away and banning him for life. That goes for the others like Palmero too.

Banishment to the Antarctic sounds about right.

Saying Congress is wasting its time with something is like saying the sun is made of hydrogen.

He's right though. Congress is such a bunch of pussies that they spin their wheels all day doing bullsh|t like this, instead actually trying to do something worth a damn. No one gives a flying fvck about baseball's drug regulations...thats baseballs problem, not the fvcking federal government, which seems to sh|t its pants in excitement at the very prospect of wasting our tax dollars.

Where the fvck is the identity theft protection? Motherfvcking sacks of useless sh|t.

Bonds is probably the most tested Ball Player in the majors and what has he done since he's been back? 3 HR's in 18 at bats...all this after a year off.

Barry Bonds is an embarrassment to the game of baseball, and should get no publicity in anything he says, it's a waste of space.

The problem is that MLB does not care, which is how congress got dragged into this in the first place. Sports in general already get to much power in regards too governing themselves. Know what happens if one of us gets caught with illegal steroids? Thats called jail. As a government, someone needs to be concerned that something as prolific is baseball is not letting its players shoot up whenever they want to, since the sport can no govern itself.

Congress has to investigate it. I mean when they place bets on a team to win and someone cheats by using steroids, those congressmen lose money. it's just not fair to them.

Baseball isn't doing sht, I'm glad Congress is passing legislation to regulate Selig's sorry azz.

Here's Selig's motto:"If I never saw it, it didn't happen."

If it contributes to getting "sacks of useless sht" like Bonds and Palmeiro out of the game, then I'm all for it.

Lawmakers should not peer into people's bedrooms to see what they'd doing at night. If a person chooses to smoke up or use steroids in their own, they are affecting nobody but themselves and this should remain their business.

Right, because companies distributing illegal drugs (BALCO) and drug dealers are helping our economy, so let's leave them alone.

QFT. Also, what does it matter if bonds is using steroids? It's not his fault the other players aren't smart enough to use them and get away with it.

No, it makes sense to go after the distributors, but we're not talking about them in this conversation. We are talking about the players themselves.

Stick to the topic.

I think it was the players' union that was keeping Selig from laying down the law.

To everyone saying Bonds should be banned from baseball and have his records removed:

Link to positive steroid test? Stop believing the bullsh!t that you hear from everyone else. There is no proof that Bonds uses roids.

The federal BALCO investigation is how Bonds, Giambi and Sheffield were exposed, and the primary reason why the Feds are peering "into their bedrooms". They were linked to the distributor, and deserve every ounce of scrutiny they've gotten. To say the Feds shouldn't investigate anyone linked to the source is absurd, especially when they're superstars of one of the greatest sports in this great nation.

Did you honestly miss the leaked federal testimony from Bonds? He said he "unknowingly" used anabolic steroids. You don't follow the news much, eh?

Read up.

Bonds told a U.S. grand jury that he used undetectable steroids known as "the cream" and "the clear," which he received from personal trainer Greg Anderson during the 2003 season. According to Bonds, the trainer told him the substances were the nutritional supplement flaxseed oil and a pain-relieving balm for the player's arthritis.

Who gives a sh*t who is saying it, as long as what he is saying is true? The investigation is a waste of time and money.
