Why is it that baseball fans are the biggest "homers" of any sport ? Everytime a baseball thread is posted on ATOT you can just tell what team people root for...

Um, because when someome attacks your team the fans of that team will generally be the first to defend. That's true of any sport. I don't see this just in baseball threads.

But good for you not being a "homer".... whatever that means...
No. They rag on other teams (or players of other teams) with a slant that their team is better in this way and that way. I'm not talking about defending...

From here.
There's a reason why I never liked Bonds, this just solidifies it. 60% of the Red Sox's superstars are black (Ortiz Manny Pedro), I think the steroids have shrunken his brain and not just his balls...
LOL. Ortiz, Manny, and Pedro aren't black even though they look black. They're from the Dominican Republic.
And they're called Black Dominican. If you want to get technical, they're of mulatto heritage.

WTF is he talking about? Boston loves all of its players, no matter their skin color. Our biggest starts aren't even white, and the newcomer, Pokey Reese is a big hit around here, everyone loves him because he's such a good player. WTF is Barry smoking?

Bonds is right....the Boston RedSox were notorious for being racist in the old days(This was still true during the 80s) by refusing to hire blacks even when the rest of the league has converted. I think it was ESPN or something that did a special on the RedSoxs and their racist past, that was only last year I think. During the TV special, they said the owner is pretty much still the same old guy. The city is not racist and the organization probably not, but the RedSox did have that interesting history with the owner, and thats probably what Bonds is referring to.
Um, what about the great Jim Rice? Dave Henderson? Hell, if you look at a random year in the 70's you'll see names such as Mario Guerrero, Juan Beniquez, Juan Marichal, Cecil Cooper, Roger Moret, and Luis Tiant. Or how about 1980, add Tony Perez, Chico Walker, Julio Valdez. 1985, add Jackie Guierrez, Mike Easler, Tony Armas, Oil Can Boyd. And these are just off the top of my head looking down the roster, I'm sure I missed many (scrubs) from those years. You could pick any given year and the Sox have had minorities on their teams from the 70's and 80's...

Why are you debating me? ESPN aired it not me
You said Boston had "refused to hire blacks" which I think you meant the 70's and you said "still in the 80's"... I proved that was not the case.

I saw the same show and they did talk about the black players in the 70s and 80s but i forget what they said about it...wish it was on right now, but its been a while since ive seen the show

If you don't like it get Pedro to stop beaning players and beating up the elderly. Calling me a "Homer" does nothing to change what I called Boston on in the first place. And I'm not like Homer at all... now where's my beer?

Who cares? The guy has obviously been told by people he respects that the TOWN (not the team) is a racist city. That may or may not be true but he doesn't want to play there.

This is the reason I respect Bonds more than other athletes. He says wtf he feels instead of giving us some lame canned 'I just do it for the team. One hit at a time and hope I can do something to help us win a game... also one at the time'.

His opinions are not always popular but at least it's something more than the Bull Durham baseball cliches.

ninnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnneeetteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeen - eighhhhhhhhhhhhhhhteeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeennnnnnnnnnn

😀

Barry will join my beloved Yankees just to spite all you Boston Crysox fans.
