Barry Bonds claims Boston is "too racist for me"...

From here.
There's a reason why I never liked Bonds, this just solidifies it. 60% of the Red Sox's superstars are black (Ortiz Manny Pedro), I think the steroids have shrunken his brain and not just his balls...

LOL. Ortiz, Manny, and Pedro aren't black even though they look black. They're from the Dominican Republic.

As a long time resident of the Bay Area and new resident of Greater Boston I can honetly say that from my perspective Boston isn't any more racist than the Bay Area. In fact the most racist areas in Greater Boston would be Dorchester and parts of Roxbury and it would be the blacks who were racist against the whites.

If Barry played for the Red Sox he'd be the King of Boston, the fans would adore him (well as long as he kept on hitting)

I've lived here since I was 15 and there's no city that loves it's baseball more than Boston.Bonds would make the cover of the Herald and the Globe, the Mayor would close city hall and they'd have a huge parade to welcome Barry if he ever graced our team with his skills.He3'd be a celebrity of the highest order here.

A sweet swing knows no color and the man has a darn sweet swing🙂

Boston=racist? Only a pathetic ass like Bonds himself would make this assumption. I really wish his retirement was coming sooner, he's a complete sore mark for all of baseball.

If Boston fans puts up with Head Cases like Rameriz and childish Prima Donna's like Petey Martinez they'd have plenty of patience for some one of Bonds ego. Of course now that he has come out a slandered the folks of Boston I wouldn't expect him to get much love when he does visit here with the Giants during the Intra League Games they play with the Sox later on this season. I do hope the Petey acts like the Fenway Punk he is and throws at Bonds just to see Bonds beat the snot out of him!

Yeah, people in Boston hate everyone equally, guess it's got something to do with the year 1918 and a certain curse 😉 Seriously, I've never seen such low-class people; when the Yankees were in town the first year Clemens was in pinstripes, the guy's wife and kids, who travelled with him, were harassed continually. Hate the guy, fine.. but there's a line. Even the players tend to be complete asses, as Manny and Pedro have shown over, and over, and over, and...

I think his statement has at least some truth to it. I've heard from at least 3 different persons (all minority) that Boston is pretty racist, especially the irish there. Personally I never lived there and I was kinda surprised to hear that since Boston has a good impression on me (home to Harvard, MIT and all).

Hmm, maybe in Southie they are but everywhere I go I see people of all races getting along just fine.

Psst...slave trade didn't just happen in the US.

If I lived in Boston, I wouldn't want him there. Screw him and his race baiting attitude. Imagine making such a public statement based on nothing more than word of mouth. That makes about as much sense as not liking a black guy cause of word of mouth. This country has enough division without some schmuck opening his mouth to start carp based on nothing more than rumors.

sheesh!

Hehehe, if he could still hit HR's I'm sure the Red Sox fans would get over what he said if he played for the Sox!

Why is it that baseball fans are the biggest "homers" of any sport ? Everytime a baseball thread is posted on ATOT you can just tell what team people root for...

Bonds is right....the Boston RedSox were notorious for being racist in the old days(This was still true during the 80s) by refusing to hire blacks even when the rest of the league has converted. I think it was ESPN or something that did a special on the RedSoxs and their racist past, that was only last year I think. During the TV special, they said the owner is pretty much still the same old guy. The city is not racist and the organization probably not, but the RedSox did have that interesting history with the owner, and thats probably what Bonds is referring to.

Um, what about the great Jim Rice? Dave Henderson? Hell, if you look at a random year in the 70's you'll see names such as Mario Guerrero, Juan Beniquez, Juan Marichal, Cecil Cooper, Roger Moret, and Luis Tiant. Or how about 1980, add Tony Perez, Chico Walker, Julio Valdez. 1985, add Jackie Guierrez, Mike Easler, Tony Armas, Oil Can Boyd. And these are just off the top of my head looking down the roster, I'm sure I missed many (scrubs) from those years. You could pick any given year and the Sox have had minorities on their teams from the 70's and 80's...

Um, because when someome attacks your team the fans of that team will generally be the first to defend. That's true of any sport. I don't see this just in baseball threads.

But good for you not being a "homer".... whatever that means...

Yeah that's the thing, a lot of people think, "we'' they're from the Dominican and speak Spanish.... so they're 'Latino', not black" That's not necessarily true. There are plenty of players there of both Spanish and African descent.

If you get the chance see "When it was just a game" and you will see what Ready is talking about.

Why are you debating me? ESPN aired it not me

they speak a latin based language, that is the only requirement for 'latino'

You said Boston had "refused to hire blacks" which I think you meant the 70's and you said "still in the 80's"... I proved that was not the case.

Actually even that much isn't required technically.

Main Entry: La·ti·no
Pronunciation: l&-'tE-(")nO
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural -nos
Etymology: American Spanish, probably short for latinoamericano Latin American
1 : a native or inhabitant of Latin America
2 : a person of Latin-American origin living in the U.S.

My point was simply that these guys can still be considered "black" because they are of African descent most likely.
