Barricade SMC7004BR and USR external 56K Sportster modem problem

I've had my external USR Sporster modem working w/ my PC's serial port. I switched it over to the serial port of the Barricade and configured the router with ISP access phone number, account #, password, DNS entries, etc. The problem is when I try to dial out, I hear the dialtone but the modem doesn't dial. My OS is W98SE. As a router, the Barricase is working fine with 2 PCs that I have connected. I called SMC's tech support, and they said that I needed to obtain an initialization stream from US Robotics and insert this string in the Extra Settings box. Does anyone know what this string is? Can anyone help me. I'm still waiting for an e-mail response from USR. Thanks in advance.
