It's because their fingers are sensitive at first.

you'll grow thicker skin in no time.

What's harder is trying some really high note solos in the 6th string (12+ frets)

It's like playing against a knife blade... hurts like a bitch... I once cut myself too. (This is electric guitar of course.)

I can't do barres with my thumb on the side of the neck, I have to put my thumb under. Though if I do that I get mad hand cramps sometimes. Sucks to be me, I guess.

You'll get used to it, your fingers'll grow more resistant over time. Make sure you give them plenty of hydration though (moisturizer/lotion), I find that that helps a lot before playing.

I remember when I first started to play guitar... my fingers got so sensitive after fretting, it would give me burning sensation while showering.

I get hand cramps after a while, too.

It's much worse on my acoustic than my electric.

Hmm bruises sound kind of unusual.. I remember minimal soreness when I was just starting out but never any bruises.

I get calluses and have to get back into it soon,,,had a 3 week break but I am still a beginner....but I also have 4 electric guitars now lol
