Hi all-

I finally got the rig together and now have a few questions about it.
I installed the usb 2 bracket and attached it to the headers on the P4B266 and installed the driver for it. When I look in device manager under Universal Serial Bus Controllers this is what I see:
---Asustek USB Enhanced Host Controller
---Intel 82801BA/ BAM usb universal host controller-2442
---" " " " -2444
---Nec USB open host controller
---" " "
---USB root hub
---" "
---" "
---" "
My question to other P4B266 user's is, do you all have this same listing of usb devices in device manager? Do I need to get rid of any of these entries?

Also, during boot-up, while looking at the device listings and their irq assignments, usb controllers is listed 4-5 times with 3-4 different irq's. Is this a problem?

My next question is about the Intel Chipset Software Installation Utility and the Intel Application Accelerator. These items come on the driver disk with the P4B266, but I went to the Intel site and grabbed the latest version of both and installed them instead.
Have most users of the P4B266 also installed these or is it better/ more stable to use the Intel Ultra ATA Storage Driver instead?
What type of luck have you all had with the Application Accelerator versus the ATA Driver?

The reason I ask these questions is after I got this system together I have been getting freeze-ups and slow performance doing some very basic things. For example, if I put a cd in the cdrom and then try and open windows explorer (win key-E) the system freezes up and the mouse stops responding and if it doesn't freeze it takes like 30 or more seconds for the Explorer window to open.
I've got both the hard drive (IBM 60gxp 40gig) and the cdrom (Acer 56x) set to master on their own ide channel and I'm running Win98se.

Thanks for any assistance

I think the USB's are fine (taking like 3-4 IRQ's). They can share anyway I believe (if necessary). I have the same thing on my P4B266 - USB controlers taking so many IRQ's; seems to work fine. As for your other problem, unfortunately I'm not sure. Maybe try uninstalling the Intel Application Accelerator.

Agree with jiffy, the USB sounds "OK" and is probably unrelated to the other trouble. If there is a problem as far as IRQ's, drivers, etc then it will show up in Device Manager with a big yellow "?" in front of it. Do you have any of those??
I also would try uninstalling the Application Accelerator to see if it helps the behavior. Other than that, more info would be needed as to setup, hardware, temps, etc. However, someone with more Intel experience would probably be in a better position than myself to help here.

I don't have the Asustek USB enhanced Host controller. However I have the NIC PCI to USB enhanced host controller B1.

which listing under the usb list does win xp use? i mean... i can't get to make my usb 2.0 work, so i'm wondering if there is one that works and others can be disabled. or at least, if you know the answer, i'll know which one to get the latest driver, so that my usb 2.0 will work.
