Seems like these drives in raid 0 benchmark as incredibly slow, however they run as expected in real world use. Like driving 100mph and the speedometer reads 25mph. Anyone have any thoughtds on this matter?

Seagate already knows about this have known about it for almost a month now. So its nothing new. They are still working on a solution. From my understands its a problem with the aam.

Is the chip containing the firmware on a barracuda IV flashable incase they find a fix?

The odd thing is the barracuda IV in raid 0 gets crummy benchmarks yet seems no slower if not a little faster than the WD400BB's i had in raid 0 when booting or loading programs.

I see people complaining about this by looking at the benchmark nubers, I only seen one guy compare real world, the real world seemed on par for him too.

Long ago I had a Maxtor drive that got about 300000 in sandra, heh.

I guess what i m trying to get at is...

Is the barracuda really slow in raid 0, or does it just benchmark as slow?

At storage review they point out that you can use IBM or Maxtor's (forgot which one) to disable AAM on the Seagate drives and you can also e-mail Seagate's tech support and they will email you the prog. If only somebody tried this...

Doh, still sucks in raid 0 with AAM adjusted, but the real world performance improved, hehe.

So what I gather from this thread is that Barracuda's suck for some reason in raid 0. But then its real world performance is better? any reason it sucks in benchmarks?
