I can't overlook the fact he was a big player in the Fannie and Freddie debachel as was many others.

While I agree with you in principle if a top 10 list of reasons why our financial system crumbled in 2007 Barney Frank would be somewhere around 8-10.

True, but he was the most vocal proponent of lowering the underwriting standards. Government all together is pretty high up on that list.
