Barnes & Noble has broken with tradition with an 8-K report that reveals its intentions to introduce a new e-reader. The form, filed earlier today, says that the company "indicated it expects to make an announcement on May 24, 2011 regarding the launch of a new eReader device," and goes on to say that the form was filed "solely to satisfy the requirements of Regulation FD." All that sounds good to us, but we wish there was a clause that required them to include a spec sheet. Considering the Nook Color just got Froyo, is it possible we'll be seeing a Honeycomb version come the 24th?

What do you think? Larger e-ink device? New Honeycomb tablet?

I would expect it to be an e-ink one but who knows. The newer version of the Kindle has better contrast, is faster, and generally considered better than the Nook so they might need to update that. I'd say that an updated Nook w/ a better e-ink screen and built in backlight/reading light would be quite popular.

I imagine a new e-ink reader - the original Nook competed well with the Kindle 2, but gets trounced by Kindle 3...and at Amazon's typical pace, there will likely by a Kindle 4 by Christmas this year, so B&N needs something new to keep competative.
