Barium Sulfate

So I go in tomorrow for a CT scan of my stomach and GI track and I've been given 2 bottles of Barium Sulfate. Now they say on the instructions if it tastes that bad to mix it with Nestle Quik. Is it REALLY that bad? I gotta down 1 bottle right before bed and then the other right when i wake up...i dunno about this...

Bariums of any type is awful. I've had it for upper gi swallows, and for 'other' procedures. Let's just say it tastes like chalk that weighs about 30 pounds per swallow.

Yes, it will taste real bad, and is thick. Downing a bottle is tough. It turns your stool white, so dont be alarmed. Xrays need that white color inorder to work better.

I did a barium swallow when I was having bad acid reflux. It wasn't that bad. I was nervous and accidentally swallowed more than I needed to. They actually had to mix up another batch for me to swallow because I drank it too fast. Ha. Upset my stomach a little but that's it.

Aint too bad. Tastes like you're drinking a lot of chalk soup. But its manageable.
Passes through your body and is not absorbed so must be harmless.
