My internet connection seems very "patchy" lately. :disgust:

Sometimes links take forever to load... if i just click the link again, it will load fine

Other times it will come back with page not found, i clikc it again... it's fine

Other times it's just downright slow.

This is odd. Are there tweaks I can be doing?

What site does this happen on? Any site?

Before I subscribed sometimes I'd have to refresh a thread a couple times before it would start to load.

If it's happening on just about any page I'd try calling your ISP maybe.

it's happening just about everywhere.... extremely hard to load up movies and clips

the ISP (stupid RCN) always tells me to unplug the cable modem, waits 1 minute, and plug everthing back in.

that doesn't tend to fix it

I had a problem with my cable modem being very patchy (disconnecting for 30secs ~ 1 minute every 5, 10, 30 minutes) and it ended up that I had an older model modem and that for some reason after awhile it had trouble communicating with their servers. I was able to go to a nearby Wiz and get a replacement for free. Not sure if this is your problem but you could ask.

what kind of router do you have?

have you tried disconecting your router, connecting your modem to one computer and seeing if anything clears up?

It's a Linksys...

Yes, I've done all the disconnecting/reconnecting before...... it's a temporary fix it seems. I hate the unplugging crap? Why is that always the solution?

I had a linksys and I had very similar problems. I tried everything. I finaly got a new router and I haven;t had any problems since. I know that alot of people have nothing but praise for linksys, but there is no way in hell I'm going to trust that company for a while

Linksys does release firmware upgrades from time to time, look on their site...

do you have multiple PCs connected? If so, try to get it to happen on some of the other ones. If it's only happening on 1 PC, it's prolly some setting in Winodws. If you're getting HTTP 404 or server not found or some crap then it may be DNS problem, I've had that crap 2. I also use RCN. They have DHCP lease of like 2 hours or something, so if you click a link when it's renewing then it could cause hiccup in service.

[Edited for clarity. It didn't make sense B4]

my school's connection is pretty patchy too. Does IE run really slow in OS X for some reason? Things take forever to load for me....

My internet is also flakey like this. Mine will go down like 5-6 times a day at random times. I have mediacom cable internet, formerly @home, and it's sucked ever since they took over.
